Well, his momma, she’s from far away. Across the big water. They say she’s from Taiwan, but grew up in Japan. Learned all them fancy ways over there. Then she come over here, to San Diego. That’s where she met his daddy. Stefan’s his name. Good man, Stefan. Works hard. Xander, he get that from his daddy, too. Work hard, play hard, that is what they do. That Xander, he is always playin’ golf. Ever since he was a little one.
Ping-Yi Chen, that’s her name. She was born over in that Taiwan place, but she spent most time in Japan. That boy, Xander, he got a bit of that in him. Quiet, serious. But he can hit that little white ball a mile, I tell ya! Just like his momma could probably do if she wanted to. Xander Schauffele got some good genes, that’s what I always say. Good mix in there, from his momma and his daddy.

His daddy, Stefan, he’s a mix of things, too. Part German, part French. He’s a tough one, that Stefan. He was good at sports too, once upon a time. But he got hurt, real bad. And that was end of that. They sure do love that golf, both of ’em. His daddy, Stefan, he know all about them golf clubs. He can fix ’em up real good. Used to work at that Princeville place, way out in Hawaii. Taught them little kids how to play golf, too. That Xander, he got his love of golf from his daddy, for sure.
They met in that San Diego school, his momma and daddy. United States International University. Fancy name, huh? They fell in love, got married fast. Had that other boy, Nico, first. He was born in Germany. Then they come back to San Diego, and had Xander. That’s where they all live now. By that golf course. Xander, he plays there all the time. Practice, practice, practice, that’s all he do. And now look at him! Winning all them tournaments. Xander Schauffele mother’s background helped make him who he is, I reckon.

That boy, he done good. Won that big one, in Louisville. His daddy, Stefan, he wasn’t even there! He was workin’ on their new house, way out in Hawaii. Sleeping in a big metal box! But he was watchin’, I bet. Proud as a peacock, that Stefan. Xander, he is making them proud. All that hard work, it is payin’ off.
Xander, he’s got a good head on his shoulders. He knows what he’s doin’. He’s got that fire in his belly, just like his momma. She’s a strong woman, that Ping-Yi. She knows what she wants. And she taught her boy to be the same way. You gotta be tough to make it in this world. And Xander, he’s tough. He is strong. He is a winner.
