Okay, folks, let’s dive into this whole Angel Hernandez “worst calls” thing. I’ve been seeing this all over the internet, and, well, I had to see what the fuss was about myself.

First, I jumped onto YouTube. You know, just to get a general feel for the situation. I typed in “Angel Hernandez bad calls” and, boy, did the videos start popping up. There were compilations, analyses, even some pretty heated rants.
I spent a good hour just watching various clips. It became pretty clear, pretty fast, that this wasn’t just a few isolated incidents. There seemed to be a pattern.
The Observation Process
I chose serveral videos and took some notes on them.
- Started jotting down notes on the types of calls he was missing. Were they mostly strike zone calls? Balls and strikes? Safe or out calls at the bases? I wanted to get specific.
- I also started noting the reactions of my favourate players and managers. It give good clue of how the players react.
Then, I decided to dig a little deeper. I started looking up some specific games mentioned in the videos. Find news articles, and try to get the context around those calls.
After all of this searching and watching, I have to say, I understand why some people feel a certain way. There’s definitely enough stuff out there to make you scratch your head.

I just tried to gather as much information as I could, and sort of form my own opinion based on what I saw and read.
