Alright, let me tell you about this stone chair thing in Baldur’s Gate 3. Took me longer than I care to admit, honestly.

So, I was exploring some ruins, you know how it is, poking around everywhere. Found this big, kinda important-looking stone chair. Looked like a throne, almost. My first thought, obviously, was click it. Games have taught us well, right? Shiny thing, important-looking thing, you click it.
So I clicked it. Nothing. Nada. Zip. The cursor showed the little gear icon, so I knew it was interactive, but clicking did absolutely nothing. Okay, weird. Maybe it’s bugged?
Trying Everything Under the Sun
I started going through the usual routine when something doesn’t work:
- Clicked it again. Many times. Faster. Slower. With feeling. Still nothing.
- Switched characters. Maybe my main guy wasn’t worthy? Tried Shadowheart, Gale, Astarion… nope.
- Looked around the room. Any buttons? Levers? Pressure plates I missed? Scoured the place. Found some cobwebs and dust, mostly.
- Checked my inventory. Do I need a specific item? A gem? A key? A lever handle I picked up three dungeons ago and forgot about? Dug through my bags. Nothing seemed relevant.
- Tried spells. Detect Thoughts? Nah. Light? Nope. Mage Hand to… push it? Didn’t work.
I must’ve spent a good 15 minutes just clicking this darn chair and everything around it. Started getting a bit frustrated. You know that feeling, like the game is mocking you? Yeah, that.
The ‘Duh’ Moment
Then, I stopped clicking like a maniac and just… looked at it. It’s a chair. What do you do with chairs? You sit in them!

It felt so stupidly obvious once the idea hit me. It wasn’t about clicking the chair itself in the traditional point-and-click adventure way. This game has that extra layer, the whole positioning and interaction thing.
So, I selected my character, right-clicked near the chair… and there it was, the ‘Sit’ command, or maybe I just dragged my character onto it, can’t recall exactly the input method at that moment. Anyway, I got my character to actually plant their backside onto the stone seat.
Click
A low grinding sound echoed. A section of the wall nearby slid open, revealing a hidden passage or a chest, I forget the exact reward now, but something definitely happened! That satisfying click wasn’t from my mouse, but from the mechanism in the game.
Felt like a bit of an idiot, but also pretty relieved. Just goes to show, sometimes the most straightforward interaction is the one you overlook when you’re deep in ‘gamer mode’ clicking everything that highlights. So yeah, if you find a suspicious stone chair… try taking a seat.
