Alright, let’s talk about Clancy. Finding a build that really clicked for me took some serious trial and error, let me tell you. When I first started playing Clancy, I was pretty lost, like a lot of folks I guess.
I went online, saw what everyone else was doing. Most guides pointed towards a full support setup. You know the one – max out the healing drone, grab all the team buff skills. Seemed logical. So I tried that for a good while. Dumped all my points into it. And honestly? It felt awful. I spent most matches just hiding in the back, babysitting the drone, praying my teammates wouldn’t run out of range. If the fight moved too fast, I was just useless baggage. It wasn’t fun, and I didn’t feel like I was contributing much beyond being a heal bot.
So, naturally, I swung completely the other way. Forget healing, I thought, let’s go full disruption. I specced into all the offensive tech – the EMP grenades, the ability jammers, everything designed to mess with the enemy team. That was definitely more active, I’ll give it that. Zapping shields and disabling skills felt good for a bit. But the problem was, I was made of paper. Any enemy that actually looked my way could take me down in seconds. I had no survivability, and my gadgets had long cooldowns. Died. A lot. Super frustrating.
I was getting pretty discouraged with Clancy, almost ready to shelve the character entirely. Then, during one particularly chaotic match where we were getting absolutely steamrolled, I just started picking abilities almost randomly between rounds. A bit of this, a bit of that. I didn’t have a grand plan, I was just trying anything to turn the tide.
What I Stumbled Upon
And somehow, it started working. Not like magic, but noticeably better. It felt like I actually had options during fights. So I started refining that weird, hybrid setup. And after a lot more tweaking, here’s the build I’ve stuck with:
- Main Gadget: Forget the big drone or the massive EMP. I use the ‘Sticky Slow Field’. Throw it down in a choke point or on an objective, and it just makes pushing through a nightmare for the enemy. It’s surprisingly effective.
- Secondary Gadget: The ‘Quick Scan Pulse’. Not for damage, just for info. Knowing where enemies are setting up is huge for my team, and it recharges reasonably fast.
- Key Perk 1: ‘Gadgeteer’. Faster cooldowns on my traps and scans. Absolutely essential. Can’t stress this enough. This perk makes the build work.
- Key Perk 2: ‘Survivor’. Just a bit of extra health regen. Helps me stay in the fight longer without needing a dedicated healer glued to me.
- Weapon: I stick with a reliable SMG. Something decent up close for when people inevitably push past my slow fields. Gotta be able to defend yourself.
Why It Works For Me
This setup isn’t about topping the damage charts or getting huge multi-kills. It’s about control and information. I spend my time setting up traps in smart spots, scanning enemy positions, and generally being a nuisance. The Slow Fields break up enemy coordination really well, and the scans prevent nasty surprises.
It lets me play proactively, anticipating enemy moves rather than just reacting. And because I’m not locked into pure healing or easily killed like the full offense build, I feel like I have a much bigger impact on the match overall. My teammates seem to appreciate the intel and the area denial too.
Look, maybe there’s some statistically ‘better’ build out there according to the spreadsheet warriors. I don’t know. But after all the experimenting and frustrating games, this is the Clancy build that feels right for me. It fits my playstyle, it’s fun, and most importantly, it gets results. It took a journey to get here, but yeah, this is my go-to for Clancy now.
