Today, I decided to get my hands dirty and really dive into something I’ve been putting off – messing around with steel.

Getting Started
First things first, I gathered all my materials. I had some scrap pieces of steel lying around from an old project. I also made sure I had my safety gear: gloves, goggles, the whole nine yards. You don’t want to mess around with metal without protecting yourself.
The Process
- Cleaning:I started by cleaning the steel pieces. They were pretty rusty and grimy, so I grabbed a wire brush and some steel wool and scrubbed until they were relatively clean. It was a bit of a workout, to be honest.
- Cutting:Next up, I needed to cut the steel into the shapes I wanted. I don’t have any fancy tools, so I used a hacksaw. Took a while, and my arms were definitely feeling it, but I managed to get it done.
- Shaping:Once I had the pieces cut, I started filing the edges to smooth them out. Again, nothing fancy, just a basic metal file. I spent a good amount of time on this, making sure there were no sharp edges.
- Experimenting:This is where I really start having fun. I start bending a few pieces, seeing what will happend,I try to twist some of the steel sheets, just playing around to see what shapes I could make.
Final Touches
After all the cutting, filing, and bending,I finally got something! I didn’t really have a plan when I started, so it’s not a masterpiece or anything. It felt good to work with my hands and actually make something tangible. And hey, I learned a few things along the way, that I can do something I havn’t done before.
It was a satisfying day. I might not have created anything groundbreaking, but the process of working with the steel, feeling its strength, and seeing it transform under my hands was pretty awesome. It is truly a raw test of “enjoy the taste of steel”.
