Alright, so you wanna know about this Wenyen Gabriel fella and his basketball stuff, huh? Okay, okay, I’ll tell ya what I know. Don’t expect no fancy talk though, I just tell it like it is.
First off, this boy, Wenyen, he plays for South Sudan. South Sudan! Can you believe it? First time ever their basketball team made it to the Olympics, the big one in Paris, 2024. That’s somethin’ special, right? Like when your grandson finally learns to ride his bike without fallin’ on his face.
Now, they say he’s a center. That means he’s one of them big fellas, tall and strong, like a good ol’ oak tree. I heard he’s about 6 foot 9, maybe taller, I ain’t good with these numbers. And he weighs… well, a lot. Enough to hold his ground, that’s for sure.
- He was born in Sudan, Khartoum, way back in 1997. Young fella, still got a lot of jumpin’ in him, I reckon.
- He even played in that NBA thing, you know, the big basketball league in America. Played for some teams, but don’t ask me which ones, too many names to remember. He wasn’t no superstar, but he got in there and did his part. I heard he averaged like, 4 points and 3 rebounds a game. That’s alright, not everyone can be a Michael Jordan, you know?
- But here’s the kicker, this boy is a shot blocker! Like swatting flies in the summer, he swats those basketballs away. Led the whole World Championship in blocks, they say. And then he did it again at the Olympics! Two blocks a game, that’s what I heard. Keeps those other fellas from scorin’, that’s for sure.
So, at the Olympics, he was all about defense and grabbin’ those balls after they miss the basket, what do they call it… ree-bounds, yeah that’s it. He and the other big guys from South Sudan, they didn’t let the other teams run all over them. They put up a fight.
Think of it like this, he’s the kinda fella you want on your team when you’re playin’ a tough game in the barnyard. He ain’t flashy, but he’ll get in there and do the dirty work. He’ll guard the basket like a mama bear protectin’ her cubs.
I ain’t seen him play myself, mind you. Too busy tendin’ to my chickens and garden. But from what I hear, this Wenyen Gabriel, he’s a good player, a hard worker. He’s put South Sudan basketball on the map, and that’s somethin’ to be proud of. He makes his country folks proud, just like how I’m proud when my tomatoes grow big and red.
He played college ball too, at some place called Kentucky. Learned all his tricks there, I guess. I never went to college myself, too busy workin’ the fields, but I hear it’s good for learnin’ stuff. And this boy, he learned how to play some good basketball, that’s for sure.
So yeah, that’s the gist of it. Wenyen Gabriel, a big fella from South Sudan, plays center, blocks shots, and plays hard. He helped his team get to the Olympics, and that’s a big deal. He ain’t no fancy pants player, but he gets the job done. And that’s what matters, right?
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed them chickens. They gettin’ mighty loud out there.
