Okay, so today, I’m gonna talk about something a bit heavy, but it’s something we all gotta deal with at some point – writing an obituary. Specifically, I had to write one for someone named Wayne Coffey. Man, it’s tough, but I figured I’d share my experience, maybe it’ll help someone else out there.
First off, I started by, well, trying to find out more about this Wayne Coffey guy. Searched all around the internet, you know. Turns out, there are obituaries for someone named Wayne Coffey. Who would have thought, right?
Then I found a site, that had some details. It said “Celebrate the life of Wayne Coffey”. And there was a specific one, a Charles Wayne Coffey, 66 years old, from Rogersville. Passed away on December 4, 2024. That’s gotta be him, right?
I stumbled upon another one, said Wayne was a “lifetime member” of something called Bridgview Amvets Post #192. And that the funeral was gonna be at Donnellan Funeral Home. Okay, that’s useful, I guess. There was also a Wayne Alfred Coffey, 68, from Hartsburg, who passed away on July 17th. It’s all so morbid, man.
So, how do you even write this thing?
I mean, where do you even start? I found some guides online, but honestly, they were kinda… clinical. You know? Not really what I was looking for. I wanted to make it personal, you know? I wrote down some stuff.
- Basic info: Name, age, where he’s from, when he passed. Check.
- Life stuff: Like, what did he do? Was he part of any clubs or groups? This Bridgview Amvets thing seems important.
- Funeral details: Where and when. Donnellan Funeral Home, it is.
It felt weird, writing all this down. Like I was summarizing a stranger’s life in a few bullet points. But I guess that’s what an obituary is, right? A summary. I put the pieces together, tried to make it sound, you know, respectful and all that. It wasn’t easy. It’s like, you’re trying to capture a whole life in a few paragraphs. I don’t know. It’s a heavy thing to do, man.
Anyway, that’s my experience with writing an obituary for Wayne Coffey. It’s not something I ever thought I’d be doing, but there you go. Life throws you curveballs, right? Hopefully, this helps someone out there who’s going through the same thing. It’s tough, but we all get through it, one way or another.
