So, I was poking around the other day, thinking about golf tournaments. You always hear about the massive payouts on the main PGA Tour, but I got curious about the Champions Tour – you know, the guys who are 50 and over. Specifically, that SAS Championship they hold over in Cary, North Carolina.

I figured, let’s see what kind of money they’re playing for there. It’s not always front-page news like the majors, right? So, I started digging into it, just trying to get a handle on the numbers from their last event.
Here’s What I Dug Up
It wasn’t super hidden or anything, just took a bit of searching online. For the 2023 tournament, the total purse – that’s the whole pot of money they divide among the players who make the cut – was $2,100,000. Two point one million bucks. Pretty decent chunk of change for the senior circuit.
Then I looked for the winner’s share. You always wanna know what the top dog takes home. Turns out, the winner of the 2023 SAS Championship pocketed $315,000. Yeah, three hundred and fifteen thousand dollars. Not bad for a few days on the course, eh? Of course, it’s years of practice that gets them there, but still, a good payday.
It kinda puts things in perspective. You see these guys still grinding, still playing amazing golf, and they’re playing for serious money. It’s not the crazy $25 million purse like The Players Championship, or the $4 million winner’s checks you see sometimes on the regular tour these days. I saw another Champions Tour event, the Dominion Energy one, pays its winner $350,000, so the SAS payout seems right in line with the bigger events on their tour.
Anyway, that was my little dive into the SAS Championship payout. Just wanted to see the numbers for myself. It’s solid money, shows the Champions Tour is still a big deal for these players.
