Okay, here’s my experience with the Mighty Mouse Catch Cans project:
I’ve been driving my old car for a while now, and I started to notice some oil consumption issues. It wasn’t terrible, but it was enough to make me worry. I started doing some research online and kept seeing people talking about these things called “catch cans.” Apparently, they help keep your engine cleaner by catching oil vapors before they get recirculated back into the intake.
So, I figured, why not give it a try? I looked around and decided to go with the Mighty Mouse brand. They seemed to have good reviews, and the price was right. I ordered the catch can kit that was specific to my car model, which made things easier.
When the kit arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. The quality seemed pretty solid – all the parts felt durable, and the instructions were clear enough. It came with the catch can itself, some hoses, mounting brackets, and all the necessary hardware.
Installation Process
The installation process wasn’t too bad. I’m no mechanic, but I’m pretty handy with tools. I started by finding a good spot in the engine bay to mount the catch can. I wanted it to be somewhere that was easily accessible for when I needed to empty it.
Then, I disconnected the PCV hose (that’s the Positive Crankcase Ventilation hose, for those who don’t know) from the intake manifold and the valve cover. I connected one end of the new hose that came with the kit to the valve cover and the other end to the inlet of the catch can.
Next, I connected another hose from the outlet of the catch can to the intake manifold. It was a bit of a tight fit in some places, but I managed to route the hoses neatly. I made sure to use the clamps provided to secure all the connections. I tightened everything down real good and secured the catch can to the mounting bracket.
- Locate PCV hose
- Disconnect PCV hose
- Connect new hoses to catch can and engine
- Secure everything tightly
- Find a spot for the can and install the mount
Once everything was installed, I double-checked all the connections to make sure there were no leaks. I started up the engine and let it run for a while, keeping an eye out for any issues. Everything seemed to be working fine, no weird noises or anything.
Results and Observations
I’ve been driving with the Mighty Mouse catch can for a few months now, and I’ve definitely noticed a difference. I’ve had to empty the catch can a couple of times, and it’s surprising how much oil it actually collects. It’s this thick, gunky stuff that would have otherwise been going back into my engine. Nasty!
As for the oil consumption, it seems to have improved a bit. I’m not having to top off the oil as often as before. Plus, I feel better knowing that my engine is staying a little cleaner on the inside.
Overall, I’m happy with the Mighty Mouse catch can. It was a relatively easy and affordable upgrade, and it seems to be doing its job. If you’re thinking about getting a catch can for your car, I’d say it’s worth considering. Just make sure you get one that’s designed for your specific vehicle and follow the instructions carefully.
I hope this write up is helpful to anyone out there that is in the same boat I was in. Good luck and happy wrenching!
