Okay, so I wanted to get a better handle on how the University of Alberta’s football team is shaping up this year. Their depth chart is always a good place to start, so I figured I’d dig into that.
First, I spent some time trying to find the most up-to-date depth chart I could. It was not a big deal. I found it eventually. Once I had it, I really started to look it over.
I started by scanning the key positions – you know, quarterback, running backs, receivers, and then moved on to the defensive side.
Offensive Line
- Left Tackle: Noticed a good mix of experience and new blood here. They’ve got a senior listed as the starter, which makes sense, but I saw a couple of younger guys backing him up, which is good for the future.
- Left Guard: Seems like a solid veteran holding down this spot. Stability in the guard positions is super important, so that’s a good sign.
- Center: This is a crucial position, and it looks like they have a seasoned player handling the snaps. Experience at center is key for a smooth offense.
- Right Guard: Another veteran here, backed up by a sophomore who probably gained some valuable experience last season.
- Right Tackle: Similar story to left tackle, with a mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen. It’s great to see that the younger players are getting a chance to develop.
Defense
- Defensive Line: I saw a lot of familiar faces here, which is expected. This unit was pretty strong last year, so it’s good they’re keeping the core together.
- Linebackers: Looks like they have a couple of key players returning, which is always important. The linebacking corps is the heart of the defense, so having strong leadership there is a must.
- Secondary: There’s a bit of a shake-up here, with some new faces stepping into starting roles. It’ll be interesting to see how these guys perform, but I trust the coaching staff to have them ready.
After going through the whole depth chart, I jotted down some notes on players to watch out for. There are a few guys who stood out to me as potential impact players.
All in all, it was a productive exercise. I feel like I have a much better understanding of the team’s strengths and weaknesses now. Of course, the depth chart is just a snapshot, and things can change quickly during the season. But it’s a good starting point, and I’m excited to see how these guys perform on the field.
