Okay, let’s talk about getting Emz set up right. It took me a bit of messing around, trying different things out in actual matches, not just reading about them.

Figuring Out the Gadget
So, first off, the gadgets. Emz has two, right? Friendzoner, the pushback one, and Acid Spray, the one that shoots through walls. I started with Friendzoner because, hey, pushing people away sounds useful for controlling space. And sometimes it was! Like, if an Edgar jumped on me, boom, get off. But honestly? It felt kinda situational. A lot of the time, I just didn’t need it, or the timing had to be perfect.
Then I switched over to Acid Spray. Man, this felt different. Being able to hit people hiding behind walls? Super useful. Checking bushes without walking right into them? Yes please. It also does a little damage which helps finish people off sometimes. Felt way more consistently useful in my games, so I stuck with Acid Spray.
Sorting Out the Star Power
Next up, Star Powers. Bad Karma or Hype. Bad Karma gives more damage the longer enemies stay in the cloud. Sounds great on paper, right? More damage is always good. I ran this for a while with Acid Spray.
But then I kept noticing I was dying kinda quick if things got hairy. Emz isn’t exactly the toughest brawler. So I thought, let me give Hype a try. That’s the one that heals you a bit for each enemy standing in your hairspray cloud. And wow, what a difference. It’s not a massive heal, but that little bit of constant recovery when you’re spraying into a group or even just one person? It adds up. It let me stay in fights longer, hold my ground better. Felt much more comfortable to play with, especially in modes like Gem Grab or Hot Zone where you’re holding an area. So, Hype won out for me.
Picking the Gears
Gears were kinda the last piece. Honestly, this was simpler.

- Damage Gear: This felt like a no-brainer. Emz does damage over time, making that damage tick harder just feels right. Helps secure kills, pressure enemies more. Slapped that on first.
- Shield Gear: For the second slot, I thought about what I needed most after picking Hype. Speed could be nice, but Emz still felt a bit fragile sometimes, even with the healing. So, I went with the Shield Gear. That extra bit of health when you’re full up gives you a buffer, makes you survive that first hit a bit better. Combined with the Hype healing, it just makes her feel way more robust.
I did try the Gadget Charge gear for a bit, thinking more Acid Sprays would be cool, but honestly, three charges felt like enough most games. Sticking with Damage and Shield felt more impactful overall.
The Final Setup (For Me Anyway)
So, after all that back and forth, playing matches, seeing what worked and what didn’t, here’s what I landed on:
- Gadget: Acid Spray
- Star Power: Hype
- Gears: Damage + Shield
This setup feels really balanced. Acid Spray gives great utility and control, Hype provides much-needed survivability, and the Damage/Shield gears just round her out nicely. Lets me control areas, stay alive longer, and still dish out good pressure. Took some time, but yeah, this feels like the best Emz build for how I play. Give it a shot if you’re looking for a solid, all-around Emz setup!
