Okay, so today was “The Judgment Day” – not literally, thank goodness! I decided to finally tackle that overflowing pile of old electronics I had stashed in the garage. You know, the graveyard of dead phones, tangled cords, and dusty gadgets that haven’t seen the light of day in years. It was time for some serious decluttering.

I started by dragging everything out into the driveway. Wow, it was worse than I remembered. I had multiple generations of cell phones, a couple of old laptops that probably still ran on Windows XP, a VCR (remember those?), and a ridiculous collection of chargers that I couldn’t even identify.
My first task was sorting. I created three piles:
- Keep (sentimental value, I guess?)
- Recycle (gotta be responsible!)
- Trash (beyond hope)
The “Keep” pile was surprisingly small. Mostly old photos stored on outdated memory cards that i wanted to find some time to recover. I spent a good hour just untangling cords. It was like an archaeological dig, uncovering layers of obsolete technology.
The Sorting Process
I found an old digital camera – the kind that used actual film! – and a Walkman. My kids were amazed by these “ancient artifacts.” Explaining how a cassette tape worked was…interesting. My back was starting to ache, so I took some breaks. Coffee helps!
The recycling pile was the biggest. I boxed up all the phones, laptops, and other e-waste. The “Trash” pile, thankfully, was manageable – mostly broken plastic casings and frayed wires.

After several gruelling hours, I had everything sorted, boxed, and ready to go.I loaded it all in my truck and ready to send to a local recycling center * felt incredibly good to finally get rid of all that clutter. My garage is still a mess, but at least one corner of it is significantly cleaner. “Judgment Day” for my old electronics was a success!
