Okay, so I saw this crossword puzzle clue the other day – “City in which to see The Last Supper.” I was like, “Hmm, interesting.” I’m not a huge art buff, but I do know that famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci. So, I did a little digging to figure out where this masterpiece actually hangs out.
Figuring Out Where to Go
First, I pulled out my phone and Googled “Where is The Last Supper located?” Easy peasy, right? The internet told me it’s in Milan, Italy. Specifically, it’s in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Sounds fancy.
Then I started to read up a bit on the painting itself. Apparently, it’s not your typical painting on canvas. It’s a mural, painted directly onto the wall. And get this – da Vinci used some experimental techniques that didn’t exactly stand the test of time. So the thing has needed a lot of restoration work over the years. Still, it’s a pretty big deal.
Booking Tickets… or Trying To
Next, I figured I should check out how to actually see this thing in person. I found out that you need to book tickets in advance. Way in advance. Like, months. People were saying tickets sell out super fast.
I went to the official website, and guess what? Sold out. Of course. I tried a few different dates, different times, nothing. Then I checked out some tour company websites. They had some options, but they were pretty pricey. We’re talking, like, way more than the regular ticket price.
Success!
But I wasn’t giving up that easily. I kept refreshing the official website, multiple times a day for what felt like an eternity. I even signed up for their waiting list. Then one day, bam! An email popped up saying a slot had opened. I jumped on it and finally snagged two tickets for me and my wife!
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure figuring out how to see The Last Supper. It took some serious determination and a whole lot of patience, but I did it. Now, I just need to plan the rest of the trip to Milan. Pizza, pasta, and a 500-year-old mural – sounds like a good time to me.
