Okay, so, today I’m gonna talk about my “stricker golf” practice. Man, it was a journey! Let’s dive right in.

First things first: I decided to actually learn how to play stricker golf, you know, properly. I’d messed around before, hitting balls kinda randomly, but never really got serious.
So, I started by watching a bunch of YouTube videos. Yeah, I know, super original. But honestly, there’s a ton of good stuff out there. I focused on the basics: grip, stance, swing mechanics, the whole shebang. Tried to copy what the pros were doing, even though I looked like a total goofball.
Then, I headed to the driving range. Oh man, the humility. First few swings were…rough. Topped the ball, sliced it into the next county, shanked a few. You name it, I did it. But I kept at it. Slowly, things started to click. I mean, I was still hitting bad shots, but less frequently. My focus was on feel. I tried to groove my swing and to make sure that I could repeat the same motions over and over again.
Next up, short game practice. This is where I thought I was doing really good at. Putting, chipping, pitching – these are all super important. I spent a lot of time on the practice green, just trying to get a feel for the distance. Chipping was a nightmare at first. I’d either skull it over the green or chunk it three feet. Eventually, I figured out that that I needed to change my stance just a little bit.
- Putting: Practiced different distances, trying to get a consistent stroke.
- Chipping: Focused on clean contact and distance control.
- Pitching: Worked on getting the ball up in the air and landing softly.
Then I played a few rounds! Playing on a real course is totally different than practicing on the range. It’s a lot harder to stay focused and consistent. So, yeah, I’m no pro yet. I still hit some stinkers, but I also made some good shots too. The key is to stay positive and just keep playing! I think the most important thing that happened was that I was finally able to walk away from the game without feeling angry. I also think I’m gonna get lessons.
