Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my irons lately, trying to dial in my game a bit more. I saw Steve Stricker’s WITB (What’s in the Bag) and was curious about his iron setup. So I decided to do some experimenting, and I recorded everything.

The Start
First, I grabbed my current set of irons. I’ve been playing with them for a while, and they’re okay, but I’m always looking for ways to improve.
I headed out to the range, and my goodness the sun was out! I found myself a spot and started warming up.
The Process
I started by hitting a bunch of balls with my current irons, just to get a baseline. I focused on my ball flight, distance, and accuracy. I wrote down everything in my little notebook – distances, how the shots felt, everything. I have to say, it was so satisfying!
- Distance: I was averaging, ok, let’s be honest, it could be better.
- Accuracy: Some were good, some… not so much. It happens!
- Feel: They felt alright, but nothing special.
I did all my swings, and the sweat was real.
I’m thinking about getting some different shafts, so I decided to try a few different combos.

Then I tried a few different iron heads, just to see if they made any difference. I didn’t expect any miracles, and spoiler alert: there weren’t any.
Results
After all that testing, I compared my notes. It was a lot of numbers and notes and chicken scratch, but I did see some of the numbers I was hoping to see.
I think I’m going to stick with what I have, and I’ll be back at it again soon!
