- His team was the Cincinnati Bengals.
- They played against the San Francisco 49ers.
But here’s the key part I was looking for: they didn’t win. The 49ers won that game. It was apparently a really close one, decided pretty late in the game, which maybe is why I had that fuzzy memory of almost winning or something.
I also saw that Esiason actually won the NFL MVP award for that 1988 season leading up to the Super Bowl. So, he had a fantastic year, just couldn’t cap it off with the championship ring.
