Okay, so I finally decided to tackle Mara in SMT V: Vengeance. I’ve been putting it off, because, you know, that design. But I wanted the challenge, and I wanted to see if my team was up to snuff. So, here’s how it went down.

First, I spent some time grinding. Not gonna lie, my demons were feeling a little underpowered. I hit up the usual spots, leveling up my main crew and making sure I had a good mix of skills. I made sure to have demons with strong physical attacks and others that could exploit weaknesses. I find that a good mix can help in most battles.
Then I looked up a bit, you know, to get some general tips. I didn’t want to go in completely blind! I mostly checked the resistance, it’s crucial!
Next up, the fusion frenzy! I spent a good chunk of time in the World of Shadows, fusing and re-fusing demons. My goal was to get demons with good resistances and, most importantly, Null Dark. I didn’t want to use those expensive items. I also looked up a few combinations I want to do. I wanted to try to get my team strong with a good variety of skills and abilities.
Alright, team assembled, strategies (sort of) in place, time to face the music… or, well, the giant… you know. I saved my game, just in case. Never go into boss without save. It is, like, the golden rule!
The battle itself? It was intense! Initially, I struggled a lot. I made some mistakes. First round I realized the weakness of my team.

I reloaded my save. Seriously, thank goodness for save states.
I switched my party a little bit and I focused on hitting hard and fast, debuffing defense, and keeping everyone healed.
I tried to find an opening. Then the battle really turned around. Finally, after a long and grueling fight, I took Mara down!
The feeling of victory was awesome! It was a tough battle, but definitely doable. The key, for me at least, was preparation and, persistence.
