Okay, so I’ve been wanting to revamp my dining room for a while now, and I finally decided to tackle the chairs. I’ve been eyeing these “Grace” chairs – I think that’s what they’re called, anyway – and I figured, why not give it a shot? I am not a carpenter, far from it, just love trying these things.

First things first, I gotta gather all the materials that I will be needed. I went and grab some wood, screws, glue, and the tools. I borrowed a saw from my neighbor – bless his soul – and I already had a drill and some sandpaper. I am feeling like a real handyman, you know?
The Messy Part
I cleared out my garage – it was a disaster zone, I will admit, with boxes everywhere. I laid down a big tarp to keep the mess contained, or attempted to. I will not lie, it was still chaos.
I started by, cutting the wood. Now, I don’t have one of those fancy miter saws, so I just used the hand saw. It took some, muscle, let me tell you. I measured everything like, five times, to make sure I did not mess it up.
After cutting, I got to sanding. I spent what felt like hours sanding those pieces of wood. My arms were killing me, and the dust was everywhere. I was looking like a ghost!
Putting It All Together
Next, I grabbed the glue and screws. I glued the pieces together, clamped them, and then, for extra security, I added the screws. I felt pretty good, seeing the chair starting to take shape.

After the main frame of chair was done, I assembled the seat part. More gluing, more screwing, more clamping. The glue was dripping everywhere, getting on my hands, my clothes, the floor. Like I said, chaos.
The final part was the seat back. This was tricky because it was curved. I had to bend the wood, which was pretty cool. Once that was done, I just had to do one final sanding to make the chair smooth.
Ta-Da!
Finally, after all that work, I had a chair! It was not perfect, not by a long shot. It was wobbly, and the finish was uneven. But, you know what? I made it! I am still proud of my creation, it is my “Grace” chair.
I can not wait to have my friends over and I will boast on how I made this.
It’s a little rough around the edges, but it’s got character, right? Plus, I learned a ton. I feel a bit better about doing these type of projects. Maybe I will tackle the whole dining set next time – who knows?
