Okay, here’s my take on sharing my experience with Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey, blog-style:

Alright folks, gather ’round! Today I’m cracking open a bottle and talkin’ about Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey. You know, the one that Conor McGregor put his name on. I’m not usually one for celebrity-backed booze, but I was curious, so I picked up a bottle.
First thing I did was, of course, check out the bottle. It’s got a decent weight to it, nothing fancy, but feels solid. The label’s got McGregor’s mug plastered all over it, which is… well, it is what it is. Opened it up, gave it a good sniff. Got a whiff of vanilla and a hint of honey, not too harsh, pretty standard for an Irish blend.
Next, I poured myself a neat dram. I like to taste a whiskey straight before I start mixing it into anything. Took a sip, held it in my mouth for a second. It’s smooth, I’ll give it that. Definitely some sweetness, more of that vanilla coming through, and a bit of spice on the back end. It’s not overly complex, but it’s definitely drinkable.
Then, I decided to see how it held up in a classic cocktail. I went for an Old Fashioned, because that’s my go-to. Muddled some sugar and bitters, added the Proper Twelve, a big ice cube, and an orange peel. Gave it a stir, and took a sip. You know what? It worked pretty well. The sweetness of the whiskey balanced out the bitterness perfectly.
After that, I thought, “Okay, let’s try something simpler.” So, I made a Whiskey Ginger. Just Proper Twelve and ginger ale, a lime wedge. Again, not bad! It’s a pretty versatile whiskey, it doesn’t get lost in the mix.

Overall Thoughts:
- It’s smooth and easy to drink, good for beginners.
- The vanilla and honey notes make it approachable.
- It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s solid for the price.
- Works well in cocktails.
I wouldn’t say it’s my all-time favorite Irish whiskey, but it’s definitely not the worst. It’s a decent everyday sipper, and a good option if you’re making cocktails for a crowd. Would I buy it again? Probably, especially if it’s on sale.
So yeah, that was my little experiment with Proper Twelve. Not bad at all. Give it a try and let me know what you think! Cheers!
