Alright, so I finally got my hands on the Nike Zoom Freak 5s, and man, I’ve been putting them through their paces. Been meaning to share my thoughts on the different colorways I’ve been rocking. It’s been a journey, let me tell ya.

First off, I grabbed the black and white ones. Classic, right? You can’t go wrong. I wore these for a good week straight, mostly just hooping at the local park. They felt solid, good lockdown, and the cushioning felt responsive enough for my old knees. I was really focused on how they felt on impact when landing after rebounds.
Then, I saw this crazy blue and orange colorway online, and I just had to have ’em. These are definitely louder, you know? Wore ’em to the gym a few times, got a few stares, but who cares? They performed just as well as the black and whites. I noticed the grip felt slightly different, maybe just me, but I was trying to really push off hard during sprints, and these felt grippier somehow.
Here’s a quick breakdown of my experiences:
- Black and White: Reliable, all-around performer. Great for everyday hooping. I like that it matches most of my clothes.
- Blue and Orange: Eye-catching, felt a bit grippier. Good for making a statement, haha. I felt like I could jump higher.
I also managed to snag a limited edition green and purple pair. These are wild! I was actually a little worried about scuffing them up, so I only wore them for indoor games. They felt lighter than the other two pairs, or maybe it’s just psychological. I did feel faster on the court, though. Managed to get a few steals I usually wouldn’t have gotten. I think these are my favorite so far.
Overall, I’m really digging the Zoom Freak 5s. The colorways are a nice touch, and each one feels a little different depending on the occasion. I am thinking of getting another one, maybe a red one. I will keep you guys posted.

Been thinking about comparing the Zoom Freak 5’s to the 4’s too. That’s my next project. Stay tuned!
