Okay, so I got really into trying to find those funky submarine pitchers in MLB The Show 23 the other day. You know, the guys who basically scrape their knuckles on the mound? Thought it would be fun to mess around with them, maybe throw opponents off in online games or just have a different look in my franchise.

My First Go-Round – Just Looking Around
So, first thing I did was just jump into the main rosters. I started clicking through teams, you know, the Blue Jays, the Giants, thinking I’d spot them easily. I kinda remembered seeing guys like Adam Cimber and Tyler Rogers pitch like that in real life, so I checked their teams first.
Spent a good chunk of time just scrolling through pitcher lists. Team after team. Checked their pitching motions in the player editor preview sometimes. Man, it was taking forever. I found Cimber and Rogers alright, but I was like, there’s gotta be more, right? Maybe some legends or guys tucked away somewhere?
Digging Deeper – The Player Search is Key
Alright, flipping through every single player wasn’t cutting it. Felt kinda dumb just browsing randomly. Then I remembered the player search function, buried in the roster menus or sometimes when you’re scouting or looking for free agents.
So I went in there. Started messing with the filters. You can filter by position, team, whatever. But then I saw it – the filter for Pitching Motion. Bingo! That had to be it.
I started scrolling through the different pitching motion names. Now, they don’t just say “Submarine”. That’d be too easy. I had to look for names that sounded… well, low. Stuff like:
- Generic Submarine 1 (or similar generic numbers)
- Some specific named players’ motions (if they have unique ones)
I started selecting those weird, low-angle sounding motions in the filter. Boom! Suddenly, a list popped up. Not just the big-name guys, but some free agents, maybe some lower-rated dudes too. This was way faster.
Actually Using Them – The Fun Part
Got a couple of these guys onto a custom roster and jumped into an exhibition game. Pitching with them is just… different. That release point is super low, obviously. It feels kinda sneaky throwing from down there. The ball comes in at a totally weird angle compared to normal pitchers.
It definitely seemed to mess with the CPU batter’s timing a bit, especially on breaking stuff. Sliders look like they’re coming up from the dirt. Sinkers just… disappear.
Found guys like:
- Adam Cimber
- Tyler Rogers
- Ryan Thompson (sometimes has that motion)
- Some generic guys in free agency too
It wasn’t a huge list, but finding them felt like a little victory. You gotta specifically search by that pitching motion filter; otherwise, you’re just hunting blindly.

So Yeah, That Was My Hunt
Took a bit of digging in the menus, messing with filters instead of just looking at player cards. The key was definitely filtering by the pitching motion itself. Now I’ve got a small collection of these submariners ready to go when I want to throw something weird at my buddies or the CPU. Pretty satisfying little project for an afternoon of playing The Show.
