Alright, so I got into this whole crossword puzzle thing with the New York Times mini crossword. It started out pretty chill, figured I’d give it a try, you know, something to do while I’m chilling on the couch or whatever. First time I saw the “None for me, thanks” clue, I was like, “What the heck does this even mean?” Seriously, I stared at it for a good minute, scratching my head.
Then, I did what any normal person would do and checked online. Turns out, this clue has shown up a couple of times before, like on January 19 and March 31. So, obviously, I’m not the only one who got stumped by this. The mini crossword is supposed to be “mini,” but man, it’s not as easy as it looks.
I started digging around for some tips and tricks, ’cause, hey, I’m not one to give up easily. Found out there are actual strategies for this stuff. Like, who knew? People are really into these crosswords, sharing hints and solutions all over the internet. There’s this whole community out there, and they’re all about helping each other out.
My strategy process
- First, I started just looking at the clues and going for the ones I kinda knew right away. That gets some letters on the board and makes it a bit easier to see what’s going on.
- Second, I learned that these puzzles have been around since 1942. 1942! That’s crazy. And they’ve just gotten more popular, especially since 2014, when they really started to get big online.
- Third, I realized that this isn’t just about knowing words. It’s like, a whole logic thing. You gotta think about how the words fit together and stuff. It’s kinda like those logic puzzles, but with words.
So, back to “None for me, thanks.” After seeing how other people tackled it, I finally got it. It’s all about how you say no to something. Like, you’re politely refusing. Once I figured that out, a bunch of other clues started making sense, too.
Honestly, it’s pretty satisfying when you finally crack a clue that’s been bugging you. And it’s cool to see how many people are into this. It’s like, this little puzzle brings people together. Who would’ve thought, right?
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with the NYT mini crossword and the infamous “None for me, thanks” clue. It’s been a ride, and I’m definitely sticking with it. Maybe I’ll even get good enough to solve them without any help. We’ll see.
