Okay, so I’ve been seeing these amigurumi things all over the internet, and I thought, “I wanna try that!” I’m a huge Power Rangers fan, always have been, so naturally, that’s what I wanted to make. My very own crochet Power Ranger. Let me tell you, it was… an experience.

First, I picked out my yarn. I went with red, of course, for the Red Ranger. Gotta start with the classic, right? I also got some white, black, and a tiny bit of yellow for the details. I already had a crochet hook that I used for making some simple scarfs, I think it was the right size. I hope it was the right size!
Finding a Pattern (Or Not)
Then came the hard part: the pattern. I looked everywhere online. I found some cool crocheted stuff, but nothing that was really what I was looking for. I did find a general pattern and I thought “ok,maybe I’ll have try use it and change a little bit”.
So, I basically winged it. I started with the body, just making a simple tube shape. Then I made the head, which was kind of a ball… sort of. It was a little lumpy, to be honest. I kept going, adding the arms and legs, which were also just tubes. I think i was doing it all wrong!
The Details (and the Frustration)
The helmet was the trickiest part. I tried to follow some pictures online, but it ended up looking more like a weird red blob than a helmet. I frogged it (that’s what crocheters call ripping out stitches, apparently) like five times. Finally, I managed to get something that vaguely resembled a helmet. I sewed on the white diamond for the chest and the black and white details for the belt and boots.
The Final Result (It’s Something!)
In the end, it doesn’t really look like the Red Ranger. It’s more like… a red blob with some vaguely Power Ranger-ish features. But you know what? I made it! It’s my own unique, slightly wonky, crochet Power Ranger. I learned a lot, and I’m actually kind of proud of it, even if it’s not perfect.

My kids totally loved it, and they’ve been playing with it non-stop. They don’t even see that his head’s a little lopsided. I am really happy with it!
I might try another one sometime, maybe the Blue Ranger this time. I figured out a few things during this first attempt, so hopefully the next one will be a little less… blob-like. Maybe I’ll even find a decent pattern this time! Or not. We’ll see!
