Alright, so I wanted to get into MMA, and the first thing I realized was that I needed some gloves. But not just any gloves, I needed the right gloves. And let me tell you, figuring out the sizing was a bit of a head-scratcher at first.

I started by, you know, just Googling “MMA gloves size chart”. I figured there’d be some standard chart out there, like with shoe sizes, right? Well, there are charts, but they aren’t all the same. It’s kind of a mess. Some charts use small, medium, large, etc. Others use ounces, like 4oz, 6oz, 8oz. Then there’s the whole hand circumference thing.
My Hand Measurement Adventure
So, I grabbed a fabric measuring tape – the kind you use for sewing. I wrapped it around my hand, just below the knuckles, like most of the guides I found said to do. Make sure that measure the hand you often use .I made sure the tape was snug, but not super tight. It’s important to keep your hand relaxed, not fisted up.
I measured a few times, just to be sure, and I kept getting around 8.5 inches. Okay, so I had a number. Now what?
Deciphering the Charts
This is where it got a little tricky. I looked at a bunch of different charts from different brands, and they all had slightly different recommendations. Some said 8.5 inches was a medium, some said it was a large. Frustrating!
- I looked at some that used just S, M, L, XL sizes. That felt too general.
- I found others that went by weight (ounces), which I learned is more about the padding than the actual fit.
- Finally, I started to see some consistency with the hand circumference measurements.
I decided to focus on the charts that used hand circumference as the main sizing factor. It just made more sense to me, since that’s the actual measurement of my hand!

Making the Choice (and Hoping for the Best)
Based on the majority of the charts I saw, an 8.5-inch hand circumference seemed to fall right between a medium and a large. I went with a large and the size is fit me.
That’s it, all of my sharing for MMA glove size, good luck everyone.
