Well now, I reckon I got somethin’ to say ’bout that new “MLB The Show 24” game, ‘specially the Franchise mode. I’ve been playin’ these games for years, and let me tell ya, it ain’t much different from last year, but there’s a few things to talk about. Now, some folks thought this year there might be some big ol’ changes, but I tell ya, they didn’t really change all that much in the Franchise mode. Just a few little tweaks, y’know, nothin’ to shake the world.
First off, they’ve got what they call “logic improvements.” Now, I ain’t sure what that means exactly, but I reckon it’s somethin’ to make the game a bit smarter, or at least actin’ like it. I don’t think it’s gonna knock your socks off, though. It’s more like them folks in the back room fixin’ a few things to make the game run smoother, but it ain’t like the game’s a whole new thing. If you was hopin’ for somethin’ big, well, you might be a little disappointed.
And then, there’s somethin’ about the MLB’s new rules bein’ added. I ain’t the sharpest when it comes to all them fancy baseball rules, but from what I hear, the game’s now followin’ them a bit closer. This might make it feel a little more real if you’re into all them real-life details. But again, I wouldn’t say it’s somethin’ that’s gonna make or break your game playin’ experience.
One of the new things they added is this here “simulation control” where you can jump into a game at certain times. I reckon it’s for them folks who don’t wanna sit through every single little play. You can skip ahead to the good parts when you feel like it. Might come in handy if you’re runnin’ a big ol’ team and you just don’t wanna sit through the whole dang game.
Another thing they got in Franchise is them sponsor helmet decals. Now, I know that don’t sound like much, but them decals will show up for teams in the Postseason, Road to the Show, and even March to October. So, I suppose it gives it a little extra flair, though I doubt anyone’s gonna lose sleep over some decals.
But don’t get me wrong, there’s a few fixes in this game. They fixed a bug where the CPU wouldn’t make trades properly. I can’t say I noticed it myself, but I’m sure them who play it a lot’ll appreciate that fix. Also, the “Diamond Dynasty” collection menu now shows more rows, so you can fit more cards in it. Again, it’s one of them little things that just makes the game a tad bit easier to play.
Now, for those of you who don’t follow baseball all that much, let me explain a bit about how them roster updates work. Every two weeks, like clockwork, they update the rosters. It usually happens on Fridays at 3 p.m. ET. That’s when the developers take a look at all them trades and player changes and adjust the game so it matches up with real-life baseball. So, you won’t have to worry about players bein’ stuck on teams where they ain’t supposed to be.
But let me tell ya this: if you’re expectin’ some huge jump in graphics or gameplay, well, you might wanna lower them expectations a bit. From what I can tell, the graphics ain’t all that different from last year. Still looks nice, but nothin’ to write home about. Batting and pitchin’ still feel pretty much the same, too. It ain’t the most realistic game out there, but it still does the job for most folks who like to play a baseball game.
All in all, if you liked last year’s game, you’ll probably like this one too. It ain’t got nothin’ that’ll blow your mind, but it’s got a few changes here and there to make it a little better. If you’re hopin’ for somethin’ totally new, though, I wouldn’t get too excited. It’s just a little bit of polish on the same ol’ thing.
So, that’s what I got for ya when it comes to the “MLB The Show 24” Franchise mode. It ain’t perfect, but it’s still a good time if you’re lookin’ for a baseball game to play. Just don’t go thinkin’ it’s gonna change your life or nothin’. It’s a good ol’ game for folks who love the sport, even if it’s not the biggest leap forward.
