Alright, so the other day I was watching some basketball, and it got me thinking, “How many NBA coaches are actually in their 70s?” I mean, coaching at that level has gotta be tough, right? It’s a lot of pressure, a lot of travel, and just a ton of work. So, I decided to dig in and find out.

First, I hit up the usual spots, you know, the main NBA site and some of those sports stats websites. I figured they’d have all the basic info on coaches, like their ages and when they started. That was easy enough, pretty much what I expected.
Then, I wanted to get a bit more specific. I started looking into which coaches are actually in their 70s right now. It seemed like there are more than I thought. One name that popped up right away was Gregg Popovich. I mean, the guy’s a legend, right? He’s been coaching the San Antonio Spurs forever! It’s like 28 years or something wild like that.
But I wanted to find a list of all of them, not just the big names. So I started digging deeper. I found a few articles and lists, some of them were pretty outdated, like they were talking about coaches from way back, like the 1970-71 season. Not really what I was looking for, but it was interesting to see how things have changed over the years.
After a bit more searching, I finally found some more current info. It turns out there aren’t a ton of coaches in their 70s right now. It’s actually a pretty short list. But seeing those names, you realize these guys have been around the game for a long, long time. They’ve seen it all, done it all. It makes sense that Gregg Popovich is on the list with his impressive NBA record.

Current NBA Coaches in Their 70s:
So, yeah, that’s what I found out. It’s pretty cool to think about these guys still going strong after all these years. It just shows how much they love the game, I guess. And it’s a reminder that age is just a number, right? If you’re passionate about something and you’re good at it, you can keep doing it for a long time.

Anyway, that was my little research project for the day. Hope you found it interesting! I just think it is really cool to find out the only one who is still coaching in his 70s is Gregg Popovich.
