Okay, so today I tried to learn how to become a really good tight end in football. I didn’t even know where to start, honestly. This position is way harder than it looks!
First, I watched some videos of this guy, George Kittle. Apparently, he’s a big deal in the NFL. I figured I should learn from the best, right? He had all these drills for footwork and blocking and catching, it looked intense. His feet move so fast! I tried to copy him, but I mostly just stumbled around like a baby deer.
Then, I started to actually practice. I set up some stuff in my backyard – used some old pipes and my kid’s toys as markers. I remembered reading something about “Pipe steps” and “4 square pipes,” so I tried those. Let me tell you, it’s a lot harder than just running around. You gotta be precise with your steps, keep your balance, and not fall over, which I did. A lot.
After that, I moved on to blocking. I don’t have a fancy blocking sled or anything, so I just used a big trash can. I practiced hitting it with my shoulder, trying to keep a low center of gravity and drive it back. It wasn’t pretty, and I’m pretty sure my neighbors thought I was nuts, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Here’s what I did for practice:
- Watched videos of George Kittle to see his technique.
- Set up a makeshift practice area in my backyard.
- Tried “Pipe steps” and “4 square pipes” drills for footwork.
- Practiced blocking using a trash can.
- Tried to do some “Slap and Swim” and “Dip and Rip” moves that I saw online, but mostly just ended up slapping myself in the face.
- Stumbled around a lot and probably looked ridiculous.
I also tried to work on catching, but that’s a whole other beast. I had my wife throw me some passes, but she’s not exactly a quarterback. Let’s just say we need some more practice in that department. But I will keep practicing catching tomorrow.
Anyways, it was a humbling experience, to say the least. Being a tight end is tough! It’s not just about being big and strong, you gotta be quick, agile, and have good hands. I have a newfound respect for those guys in the NFL. I’ll keep practicing, though. Maybe one day I’ll be good enough to play in the backyard with my kid, without falling down!
I realized that I was just trying to get better, and that’s all that matters. I learned that progress takes time, and I shouldn’t get discouraged if I don’t see results right away. I will keep practicing and keep learning, and who knows, maybe one day I’ll be a decent tight end.
This whole thing reminded me of when I first tried to learn how to code. I was so lost and confused, but I kept at it, and eventually, I got the hang of it. I think this is going to be the same way. It’s going to take time and effort, but I’m determined to get better.
I ended up spending the whole day working on this, and I’m exhausted. But I feel good. I feel like I accomplished something, even if it was just falling down a lot and looking silly. I’m going to keep at it, though. I’m not giving up that easily.
I hope that this will be helpful and make sense. I will keep sharing my practice like this!
