Well, let me tell you somethin’. That there Mankind vs Undertaker Hell in a Cell, that was somethin’ else. That was a sight to behold, I tell ya. Back in, what was it, ’98? Yeah, 1998. Time sure does fly. King of the Ring, they called it. Bunch of hooey if you ask me, but the boys sure did put on a show.
Now, this here Hell in a Cell, it ain’t no ordinary cage. It’s big. Real big. Like, higher than my old barn roof, I reckon. And it’s got a top on it, too. They was all locked in there, like a bunch of wild dogs, just goin’ at it.
That Mankind, he’s a tough one, I’ll give him that. But Undertaker, well, he’s like a force of nature. Big fella, mean as a rattlesnake. Those two, they went at it like nothin’ I ever seen. And I seen plenty of scraps in my day, let me tell ya.
- Mankind, he was all over the place.
- Undertaker, he just kept comin’.
- That cage, it was a rattlin’ and a shakin’.
They was up on top of that cage. Lord have mercy, I thought they was gonna fall right off. My heart was in my throat, I’ll tell you what. And then, it happened. Undertaker, he threw Mankind right off the top! I thought he was a goner for sure. I tell you, my heart stopped when he went flying off that thing. It was higher than anything you’ve ever seen. I don’t know how anyone could survive that. I thought he was a goner, no doubt about it.
But that Mankind, he’s somethin’ else. He got back up! Can you believe it? I couldn’t hardly watch. It was brutal, just brutal. They kept on fightin’, even after that. I don’t know how they did it. It was a real Hell in a Cell. They say it was one for the history books, and I believe it. That Mankind vs Undertaker match, it was somethin’.
They was throwin’ each other around like rag dolls. I thought for sure one of ’em was gonna get seriously hurt. And they did, oh they did. That Mankind, he took a beatin’. But he kept gettin’ up. He was like a weed, that one. Hard to kill.
Then they was back on top of that darn cage again. I thought, “Oh lord, here we go again.” And sure enough, Undertaker, he did it again! He threw Mankind through the roof of that cell! Right through it! I thought he was dead this time. No way he could survive that, I thought. It was just crazy. Like somethin’ out of a movie. A scary movie.
That cage was somethin’ else. It was like a demon, I swear. Just made them boys go crazy. They were doing things I never seen before. And I seen some things in my life, let me tell you. This Mankind vs Undertaker Hell in a Cell, it was the wildest thing I ever did see in wrestling. I’ve seen a lot of matches in my day, but nothin’ like this. It was crazy!
- They was fightin’ inside.
- They was fightin’ on top.
- They was fightin’ all over that darn cage!
- It was just chaos, I tell you.
Now, you might think that was the end of it. But no sir. That Mankind, he was still in it. He wouldn’t give up. They went back and forth, beatin’ the tar outta each other. Undertaker was hittin’ him with everything he had. But Mankind, he just kept comin’ back for more. He was a tough one, that’s for sure. I don’t know how he did it. Must have been made of iron or somethin’.
Finally, Undertaker, he got the best of him. He pinned him down, one, two, three. It was over. Thank the lord, I thought. I couldn’t take much more of that. It was just too much. That Mankind vs Undertaker match was the craziest thing I ever did see. But Undertaker, he won. He was the better man that night, I reckon. He sure proved it.
But I’ll tell you what, that Mankind, he earned my respect that night. He might have lost, but he went down fightin’. And that’s all you can ask for, I reckon. He put up a good fight, that’s for sure. That Hell in a Cell, it was too much for him in the end. But he didn’t back down, not one bit.
That Mankind vs Undertaker Hell in a Cell match, it was somethin’ I’ll never forget. It was a brutal, brutal match. But it was somethin’ to see. Somethin’ to see, indeed. That was a long time ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. It was that kind of match. I reckon they don’t make ’em like that anymore. And maybe that’s a good thing.
