Okay, so I’ve been getting absolutely wrecked by Malphite in the top lane lately. It’s like, no matter what I pick, he just becomes this unkillable rock that throws boulders at me all day. So, I decided I needed to figure out how to actually counter this guy. My mission began!

The Research Phase
First things first, I hit up some forums and guides. I wanted to see what other people were saying. I saw a lot of the usual suggestions. A lot of the advice was all over the place.
Experiment Time!
Armed with some ideas, I jumped into some normal games. I needed to test this stuff out in a (somewhat) real environment. Here is what i did:
- Tried magic resist: I thought, “Okay, he does mostly magic damage, so I’ll just stack magic resist!” Nope. Still got smashed. He just out-sustained me and eventually wore me down.
- Attempted to poke: I figured maybe ranged champions could keep him at bay. Wrong again. He just runs at you with his ultimate, and then you’re dead.
Some thoughts about how to do it.
I realized that beating Malphite isn’t about one magic item or champion. It’s about how you play the lane, what your win *’s the best way to explain.
- You can’t just stand there and fight him: He’s designed to win those kinds of trades. You gotta be smarter.
- Wave management is key: If you let him constantly shove the wave under your tower, you’re gonna have a bad time. You need to try and freeze the wave near your tower, so he’s vulnerable to ganks.
- Short trades are your friend: Don’t go for extended fights. Get in, do some damage, and get out.
The Final Result
So, after all this testing and experimenting, did I find the perfect counter to Malphite? Honestly, not really. But,I started having much better games against him. By picking the correct champ and playstyle, I managed to survive the lane, sometimes I even got ahead!. It’s still a tough matchup, but it no longer feels impossible. And sometimes, that’s all you can ask for.
