Alright, let’s talk about this LIV Golf thing and their TV ratings. You know, the numbers they get when folks watch on TV. Seems like not many folks are watchin’, which ain’t good, not good at all.
I heard tell some big shots, the fellas runnin’ these golf leagues and the TV stations, they been kinda hush-hush about how many people are actually watchin’. But the truth’s comin’ out, like a pig outta mud. The numbers, they ain’t lookin’ so hot.
So, what’s the deal with LIV Golf’s ratings? Well, for their big championship, the one where they crown the winner, the ratings were real low. I mean, real low. Like, hardly anybody watched. That’s what I heard, anyway.
Now, they play golf mostly on Sundays, right? Well, this year, on average, only about 2.2 million folks watched on Sundays. Last year, it was 2.7 million. That’s a big drop, like a stone in a well. Almost 20% fewer people watchin’! That ain’t right.
- They say if you count the big tournaments, the majors, then the number goes up a bit, to 2.8 million. But still, that ain’t great.
- I even heard that some newspaper guys, the Sports Business Journal folks, they said that the first two LIV events this year, on that CW channel, had more viewers than last year. Said over 400,000 people watched the one in Mexico.
- Then the next week, it was less, only about 297,000. Up and down like a yo-yo, it seems.
Then there was this tournament, the one where that fella, Joaquin Niemann, won in the dark. Yeah, it was almost dark when they finished! That one got 432,000 viewers on the CW. A little better, but still not great. Not like the old days, when everyone watched golf on TV.
But the real shocker was when Jon Rahm won. You know, that good-lookin’ fella? Well, only 89,000 people watched him win on Sunday! And even fewer watched on Saturday. That’s worse than a hen with one chick! That CW channel, nobody’s watchin’ it, seems like.
Why are the ratings so low? Well, I ain’t no expert, but I reckon folks just ain’t that interested. Maybe they don’t like the new format, or maybe they don’t like the players. Or maybe they just don’t know where to find it on TV! Things are so complicated these days.
It’s a shame, really. Golf is a good game, a gentleman’s game. But if nobody’s watchin’, then what’s the point? The sponsors, the fellas payin’ for the TV time, they ain’t gonna be happy. And if they ain’t happy, then the golf ain’t gonna last long. That’s just common sense.
Maybe they need to get some more famous players, or maybe they need to make it easier to watch. Or maybe they just need to wait for folks to get used to it. I don’t know. But somethin’ gotta change, or them TV ratings are gonna keep droppin’ like a sack of potatoes.
And that ain’t good for nobody. Not for the players, not for the sponsors, and not for the folks who actually like watchin’ golf on TV. So, let’s hope they figure it out. Otherwise, this LIV Golf thing might just disappear faster than a fart in the wind.
But you know what they say, only time will tell. And in the meantime, I’ll just keep watchin’ my old reruns of golf tournaments. At least those had good ratings!
