Okay, so today I decided to mess around with creating something for Chinese New Year, and I thought, why not try a “Chinese New Year Kyrie” design? I’m no pro, but I like to dabble.

First, I opened up my design software. I use this free one I found online – it’s not fancy, but it gets the job done. I started with a blank canvas, naturally. I needed a plan.
Brainstorming and Gathering
I thought what is typical CNY themes? Lots of red and gold, right? And dragons, lanterns, maybe some traditional patterns. I did a quick search online for some inspiration – just looking at images, nothing too serious.
Creating the Design
- I started by creating a red background. Just a simple, solid red.
- Then, I wanted to add some gold. I played around with some brushstrokes, trying to make them look a bit like calligraphy, even though I don’t know how to write it!
- Next, I found some dragon images online (free for personal use, of course!). I picked one that looked cool and not too complicated.
- I imported the dragon and resized it to fit my design. I changed the color to gold, to match the brushstrokes.
- I added some lantern shapes, also in gold. Just simple circles and ovals, really.
- I duplicated a few, the dragon, latterns. I wanted the design looks not that empty.
- Finally, I added the text “Chinese New Year” and “Kyrie” in a font that I thought looked kinda nice. I played with the placement for a bit until it looked balanced.
Final Touches
I spent a little while tweaking things – adjusting colors, moving elements around. It’s not perfect, but I think it looks pretty good for a quick project! I saved it as a JPEG, and that was it! I also created a few and compare them, just small changes.
Then compared to choose one which looks best for me.

It was a fun little experiment. I learned a bit more about playing with colors and shapes, and it got me in the mood for the upcoming festivities. Maybe next time I’ll try something even more ambitious!
