Okay, so I’ve been getting into UFC 4 lately, and I’ve got buddies who play on different consoles. Naturally, the big question popped up: can we actually play together? I mean, wouldn’t it be awesome to have a virtual brawl regardless of whether you’re team PlayStation or Xbox? So, I went digging.
I started out simple, just poking around the game’s menus and settings. No dice. Nothing there about playing with folks on other systems. That’s a bummer, right?
Then, I hit the web. Scrolled through a bunch of forums and articles. Found some people talking about “cross-progression”. Sounds cool, huh? But when you read between the lines, it was just about carrying your game progress across different platforms, no matter if you played on PC or console, you can use the same account to save the game progress. Not exactly what I was hoping for. I found some words like “binary format”, “CodePlex”, “Integration Services”, and “Master Data Services”. These words look very professional, but I’m not sure what they are. I am not a tech guy.
My Findings
- No Cross-Play in UFC 4: It became pretty clear that UFC 4 doesn’t support cross-platform play. You’re stuck playing with people on the same console as you. Yeah, it stinks.
- Cross-Progression, Not Cross-Platform: You can take your save files to different platforms, but you cannot play with your friends on different platforms. Just like a flashcard said, “Cross platform mobile development has multiple advantages for a developer. First of all, it allows you to reuse a significant account of code.” But it did not happen on UFC 4.
So, there you have it. It’s a bit of a letdown, I know. I was really hoping to duke it out with all my friends. Maybe in the future, they’ll add this feature. Fingers crossed, right? Until then, I guess I’ll just have to stick to battling it out with my PlayStation buddies. It is what it is. I just share my findings with you guys.
