Alright, let’s talk about my time on the golf course recently. I’ve been trying to get into this shambles format, and boy, it’s been a ride.
So, first off, I got my team together. We’re not pros, just a bunch of us who enjoy a good round of golf. We headed out to the course early one morning, hoping to beat the crowd. The weather was perfect, not too hot, not too cold.
- We started with the first tee, and the idea was to pick the best drive among us.
- I teed off, and honestly, it wasn’t my best.
- Then came my buddy, Mark, and he absolutely crushed it. His ball went soaring straight down the fairway.
- Needless to say, we chose his drive.
Now, from where Mark’s ball landed, we all played our own balls. This is where it gets tricky. I grabbed my iron, took a deep breath, and swung. Not bad, I landed on the green, but not quite close to the hole. My other buddies had similar results, some better, some worse.
We did this for every hole. Each time, we picked the best drive and then played our own balls from that spot. It was kind of cool because you get the advantage of a great drive, but you still have to rely on your own skills for the rest of the hole.
One thing I noticed was how important it was to watch my teammates’ shots. I mean, you can really learn a lot from each other. Like, I saw how Sarah was hitting her irons, and I tried to copy her stance a bit. It actually helped!
We also tried out some strategies. We figured out it wasn’t only about getting it in the hole in the least number of shots. We figured out it wasn’t just about the best drive, it was also about placing the ball where we all had a good chance to score well.
We tried to calculate our handicaps before we started playing, but we kinda messed that up a bit. It didn’t ruin the game though. We just used it as a good reason to laugh at ourselves. It was simple enough, we multiplied our handicaps by 0.8.
The Result
By the end of the day, we were all pretty tired but in good spirits. We added up our best two scores for each hole, and that was our team score. We didn’t win any prizes or anything, but we had a blast. It was definitely a different way to play golf, and I think we’ll be doing it again soon.
So, that’s my shambles experience. It’s fun, it’s social, and it’s a great way to mix things up on the golf course. If you haven’t tried it, you should give it a shot!
