Okay, so today I wanted to try making a Warren Reed purse. I’ve seen these things around, and they look pretty cool, so I figured, why not give it a shot?
First, I gathered all the stuff I thought I’d need. I got some leather scraps from an old project, a zipper I snagged from an old jacket, and some thread and needles. I also found a pair of scissors and a ruler. I wasn’t really sure what I was doing, so I just kind of winged it.
Getting Started
I started by sketching out a rough idea of what I wanted the purse to look like. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a basic rectangular shape. I measured out the leather and cut it into two pieces, one for the front and one for the back. They were kind of uneven, but I figured it would add character.
Next, I tried to sew the zipper onto one of the leather pieces. This was way harder than I thought it would be. The needle kept getting stuck, and the thread kept tangling. I pricked my finger a couple of times, too. But I kept at it, and eventually, I managed to get the zipper attached. It wasn’t pretty, but it was functional.
Putting It Together
After that, I sewed the front and back pieces of leather together, leaving the top open. I used a simple running stitch, which I think is the only stitch I really know. Again, it wasn’t perfect, but it held. I turned the purse right side out, and it actually looked like a purse!
The last thing I did was add a strap. I cut a long, thin strip of leather and sewed it onto the sides of the purse. I made sure to double-stitch it so it wouldn’t break. And that was it! My very own, homemade Warren Reed purse.
The Result
It’s definitely not the prettiest purse in the world, but I’m pretty proud of it. It’s unique, it’s functional, and I made it myself. Plus, it was a fun way to spend an afternoon. I might even try making another one sometime, maybe with some different materials or a different design. Who knows?
