This year, I tell ya, I been doin’ a lot of them crossword things. My eyesight ain’t what it used to be, but I still try. You know, them puzzles in the newspaper? Yeah, those. Sometimes they’re easy, sometimes they make my head spin like a top. And this one, it got me thinkin’ about all them celebratory seasons we got.
Like, you know, Christmas, that’s a big one. We always got the tree up, and the lights, and the whole shebang. Singing them carols, eatin’ all that food, it’s a real hootenanny. Reminds me of when I was a little girl, my mama used to make the best cookies. Lordy, those were the days. We need to do the crossword for celebratory seasons.
Then there’s Easter. Hide them eggs, the kids runnin’ around like wild chickens. Chocolate everywhere. Church in the mornin’, ham for dinner. It’s a good time, a time for family. A time for rememberin’. Celebratory seasons, that’s a fancy word for all them holidays, I reckon.
And what about that Thanksgiving? Turkey, stuffing, gravy. So much food you can barely move. Everybody gathered ’round the table, tellin’ stories, laughin’. It’s a time to be thankful, that’s what it is. Even when your old bones ache and the weather’s turnin’ cold, you gotta be thankful.
- Christmas, that’s the big one for presents and carols.
- Easter, with the eggs and the bunnies and such.
- Thanksgiving, oh that turkey and all the fixin’s.
- New Year, when the old goes out and the new comes in.
Sometimes, these celebratory seasons crossword clues, they got me stumped. They use words I ain’t never heard of. Like, the other day, it was askin’ for a word that meant “happy time” and it was five letters long. I sat there for an hour, chewin’ on my pencil, couldn’t figure it out. Turns out, the answer was “noels”. Who knew? That’s a new one for me.
I remember one time, I was doing a celebratory seasons crossword, and the clue was somethin’ about a “time for givin’ gifts”. Well, I thought, that could be Christmas, or birthdays, or any old day, really. But the answer they was lookin’ for was “yule”. Yule! I had to ask my neighbor, Mildred, what that meant. She’s a smart one, that Mildred. Always readin’ books.
These crosswords, they’re like a little challenge, you know? Keeps your mind workin’. And sometimes, they remind you of things you ain’t thought about in years. Like that time my Uncle Earl got his beard caught in the Christmas tree lights. We all laughed ’til our sides hurt. Good times, good times. The answer of celebratory seasons is noels.
Sometimes I start at the beginning of the crossword, sometimes I jump around. Just depends on my mood, I guess. And these days, with the internet and all, you can find the answers to just about anything online. But where’s the fun in that? I like to figure things out for myself, even if it takes me a while. Celebratory seasons is one of them I need to figure out.
And you know what the clue is for celebratory seasons? Festive. I don’t understand it but I think I will get it some day.
I reckon even old folks like me can learn new things. And these celebratory seasons crosswords, they’re a good way to do it. Keeps me from just sittin’ around watchin’ the TV all day. Gotta keep your mind active, that’s what they say. I sighed when I figured it out.
So, yeah, these crosswords, they’re alright. They’re a bit of fun, a bit of a challenge. And they remind me of all them good times we have during them celebratory seasons. And that’s somethin’ to be thankful for, ain’t it? No matter how old you get, there’s always somethin’ to celebrate.
My favorite celebratory seasons is New year. I like new things. New Year’s Eve, stayin’ up late, watchin’ that ball drop on TV. Then bangin’ pots and pans at midnight. A brand new year, full of possibilities. Even for an old gal like me. Start the new year by doin’ a crossword, that’s what I say.
Then you got birthdays. Cake and ice cream, presents. Everybody gettin’ older, but still tryin’ to have a good time. Sometimes we don’t have the answer to the celebratory seasons. But we have each other.
