Alright, so, I wanted to get better at picking off runners in MLB the Show 23. It’s one of those things that looks so easy when you see other people do it, but when I tried, I was just throwing the ball away or getting the timing all messed up. It’s frustrating, you know?
Figuring Out the Timing
First, I watched a bunch of videos, read some stuff online, but honestly, most of it just confused me more. So, I decided to just jump in and figure it out on my own. I started a game, got a runner on first, and just started messing with the timing.
At first, I was throwing way too late. The runner was practically halfway to second by the time the ball got to my first baseman. Then I started throwing too early, and I’d just do a regular pitch. Took me a few tries, but I found that sweet spot where you gotta make your move just as the pitcher starts his motion.
Practice Makes Perfect
- Loads of practice: I spent hours, seriously, just practicing.
- Focus on the pitcher and runner: The key is to watch both the pitcher’s motion and the runner’s lead.
- Getting the feel for it: Eventually, I started to get a feel for when to throw over.
It’s not just about hitting the button at the right time. You gotta be aware of what’s happening on the field. If the runner is taking a huge lead, you know he’s probably going to try to steal, so you gotta be ready. Also, having a pitcher with a good pickoff move helps a ton, and a catcher with a strong arm is a must.
Taking it to the Game
After all that practice, I finally felt confident enough to try it in a real game. First time, I was a bit nervous, but I nailed it! Picked the guy off clean. It felt awesome. I started doing it more and more, and it really changed how I play the game. I was controlling the running game, making the other team think twice about taking big leads.
It was a grind to learn it, no doubt. But now, I can confidently say that I am pretty darn good at picking off runners in MLB the Show 23. And it all started with just deciding to do it, to keep trying, and to figure it out step by step. It’s a great feeling when you finally get the hang of something that seemed impossible at first. So, yeah, that’s my story of how I got good at pickoffs in the game.
