Okay, so I wanted to make a crossword puzzle, just a rough one, you know? Nothing fancy, just wanted to see if I could actually do it.

Getting Started
First, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil. Yeah, old school. I could have used some fancy software, but I just wanted to get the basic idea down quickly.
Brainstorming Words
Then I started thinking of words. This was actually harder than I thought! I wanted a mix of short and long words, and they needed to, like, actually intersect. I made a list:
- COFFEE
- DONUT
- MORNING
- JAVA
- CODE
I didn’t use all of them at the end.
Making the Grid
I started drawing a grid, just some rough squares. Then I tried to fit the words in, erasing and redrawing a bunch of times. It was like a messy jigsaw puzzle. I started with the longest word, “MORNING”, and tried to build around it.
Tweaking and Adjusting
It took a few tries. I had to shift words around, change some words completely, and adjust the grid. Some words just didn’t want to cooperate! I realized that shorter words are way easier to work with when you’re starting out.

The Final Mess
Finally, I had something that looked kinda like a crossword. It wasn’t pretty, and the grid was all wonky, but the words fit! It’s definitely not something I’d show off, but hey, I made it. I circled the starting squares for each word, just to make it a little clearer.
Lessons Learned
- Start small: Shorter words are your friends.
- Be flexible: Don’t get too attached to any one word.
- Pencil is key: You’re gonna be erasing. A lot.
- Keep it simple:If it is too difficult, make easy!
It was a fun little experiment. Maybe next time I’ll try using some actual software, or maybe I made enought simple ones, I can try harder!
