Okay, so fantasy football season is breathing down our necks again. This year, I found myself needing some fresh ideas for team names, specifically revolving around Aaron Rodgers. He’s always a big name, even with the move and the injury last year, so finding something good felt important.

My Process for Naming
First thing I did was just sit down and think. What comes to mind with Rodgers? Green Bay, obviously, but he’s a Jet now. So, that’s a whole new angle. Then there’s the MVP stuff, the “Discount Double Check,” the whole darkness retreat thing, even last year’s super short season. Lots to potentially work with.
I started jotting down random words and phrases connected to him. Just threw everything on a piece of paper.
- Jets
- Green
- Number 12 (or 8 now, right?)
- MVP
- Hail Mary
- Check Down (kidding… mostly)
- State Farm
- Achilles
- Comeback
Then I tried mashing things together. Some early thoughts were pretty basic, like “Rodgers That” or “Mr. Rodgers’ Neighborhood.” Fine, but kinda boring, everyone uses those.
I wanted something a bit punchier, maybe related to the Jets move or the comeback narrative everyone’s watching for. Started playing with rhymes and puns. “Aaron It Out” is okay. “Armed Rodgery”? A bit dark maybe. “Getting Rodgers With It”? Maybe.
I spent some time thinking about movie titles or song lyrics you could twist. That usually works well for fantasy names. Stuff like “King of the North” doesn’t really fit anymore, does it? Maybe something about New York? “Empire State of Mind” is taken. “New York Groove”? Eh.

Narrowing Down the List
After brainstorming a bit, I had a messy list. I went through it and crossed off the ones that felt lame or were too complicated. A good fantasy name, for me, needs to be easy to get, maybe make you smirk a little, and definitely relate to the player.
Here’s a few I landed on that I kinda liked:
- Aaron it Out in NYC
- Rodgers & Hammered Foes
- My QB Went to a Darkness Retreat
- Discount Double Checkmate
- Flight Risk (Jets pun, get it?)
- A.* Rodgers (Key & Peele style)
- Healin’ Rodgers
- Return of the Jedi Master
Some are better than others, obviously. Depends on your league’s vibe too. Some folks like edgy, some like plain funny.
Ultimately, I just picked one from the shorter list that felt right for this season. The process itself is half the fun, right? Just messing around with words and seeing what sticks. It’s not like it guarantees a championship, but having a solid team name is a good start.
