Well, let me tell ya, I heard somethin’ mighty sad ’bout Henry Cejudo’s sister. Her name was Gloria, and she was one of his siblings. She wasn’t no stranger to hardship neither. From what I heard, she been fightin’ with cancer for over two years, real bad kind of cancer they call gastrointestinal. Now, I don’t rightly understand all them fancy medical terms, but what I know is she put up one tough fight. She passed away just a few days before her 41st birthday, on September 15, 2023. That’s a real tough one for Henry and the whole family, I reckon.
Now, you might know Henry Cejudo from his days in the UFC, what they call the champ-champ, which means he won titles in two different weight classes. But what folks don’t always talk about is his family, and especially his sister Gloria. Gloria, she was always there for Henry, lookin’ out for him like an older sister does. Henry talked real emotional ’bout how much she meant to him, said she played so many roles in his life. You could tell from his words, he loved her something fierce.
Gloria was born in California, just like Henry, but her folks, they came from Mexico. A big ol’ family they had, seven kids in all. Henry, he was one of the youngest. But Gloria, she was one of the older ones, always lookin’ after the younger ones, I bet. I don’t know much ‘bout how she lived her life, but Henry sure did say she was a fighter. And fight she did, for two long years. She fought that cancer with everything she had, like a true warrior. But sometimes, even the strongest can’t win every battle, and that’s what happened to her.
Now, Henry, he’s always been a tough one, ever since he was just a young man. He went and won a gold medal in wrestling at them Olympics when he was just 21, the youngest American to ever do that. Ain’t that somethin’? He didn’t stop there neither, went on to become a two-division UFC champion. But I reckon, no matter how many gold medals or championships you win, losing a sister is one of the hardest things a person can go through.
On the day Gloria passed, Henry shared the sad news on social media, the way folks do these days. He didn’t just talk about her battle with cancer, though, he talked about the love they shared. Said she was more than just a sister, she was a part of him. A piece of his heart. He said he’d never seen anybody fight for their life like her. That right there shows you how much she meant to him. She wasn’t just some relative; she was his rock, his guide, his friend.
Henry’s a busy man, but you could tell he took a moment to reflect and mourn the loss. He’s had folks reach out to him, sendin’ their condolences, even some big names like Donald Trump Jr. But I reckon no words can really heal a heart that’s been broken by losing family. That’s a hurt that stays with ya.
After Henry shared the news, people from all over, even fans of his from his fighting days, offered their prayers and their sympathy. It’s a reminder that, no matter how big of a champion you are, family is what matters most. Henry’s got his own little family now, too, what with his wife Ana Karolina and their daughter, but no matter how much love they share, I bet he’s always gonna miss his sister Gloria.
Gloria was a fighter, just like her brother, right ‘til the very end. She didn’t give up, even when the fight seemed too hard. And Henry, well, he’ll carry that memory of her with him the rest of his days. You can see the pain in his eyes when he talks about her, but also the pride. She fought hard, and she showed him just how strong love and family can be, even in the face of something as cruel as cancer.
So, if you remember nothin’ else from this, remember this: family’s important. You never know how much time you got with the ones you love. So, hold ‘em close, tell ‘em you love ‘em, ‘cause you just don’t know when the last time might come. Rest in peace, Gloria, and prayers to Henry and all the Cejudo family. They’ve lost a mighty woman, that’s for sure.
