Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my putting lately, and I stumbled upon this whole “heel-shafted putter” thing. I figured, why not give it a shot? Here’s how it went down.

The Experiment Begins
First, I grabbed an old putter I had lying around. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a standard blade-style putter. I wasn’t about to drop a ton of cash on something I wasn’t sure about, you know?
I took it out to the practice green, I started hitting some putts. My usual setup is pretty standard, nothing crazy. Ball positioned a bit forward, hands a little ahead. With this heel-shafted thing, I noticed right away that I had to adjust.
Tweaking the Setup
- Ball Position: I had to move the ball back in my stance, more towards the center. Felt weird at first, but it made sense since the shaft is connected at the heel.
- Hand Position: I kept my hands pretty neutral, not much forward press. Too much forward press seemed to make the face close up on me.
- Stance: I played the Putter in my stance as I played an 8 iron.
- Posture: No change in posture,I kept the original Posture when I putted.
Hitting Some Putts
The first few putts? Whoa, talk about a different feel! The ball definitely came off the face with a bit more “pop.” It felt like I didn’t have to swing as hard to get the ball to the hole. Also the club feels lighter than before. The miss-hits weren’t as punishing, either. I noticed the ball still rolled pretty true, even when I didn’t catch it perfectly in the center.
I spent a good hour just messing around with different length putts. Short ones, long ones, breaking putts… the whole nine yards. I even tried some drills to work on my distance control.
The Verdict (So Far)
Honestly, I’m kind of digging this heel-shafted putter thing. It’s not a miracle cure for bad putting, but it definitely gives you a different feel. I’m thinking it might help me on those shorter putts, where I sometimes struggle with getting the ball to the hole. This helps me easily hit the ball to the hole, with better accuracy and minimal adjustment.

I’m going to keep practicing with it and see if it makes a real difference in my scores. Who knows, maybe I’ll be a heel-shafted convert!
