Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to do something about these old football ear pads for a while. They were just sitting in my garage, collecting dust. My son used to wear them when he played football, but he’s all grown up now and doesn’t need them anymore. Instead of throwing them away, I figured, why not turn them into something fun? I thought about it, and then it hit me – a teddy bear!
First things first, I gathered all the stuff I needed. Besides the ear pads, I grabbed some fabric scraps from my sewing box, stuffing (you know, the fluffy stuff inside pillows), a needle, and some thread. I also found some buttons for the eyes and a ribbon for a little decoration. I wanted to keep it simple, so I didn’t use any fancy patterns or anything.

- Buttons and a ribbon
The Process
I started by cleaning the ear pads. They were pretty dirty, so I gave them a good scrub with soap and water. Once they were dry, I started cutting up the fabric. I didn’t really have a plan, I just cut out shapes that I thought would look good for the bear’s body, arms, and legs. I used some soft, fuzzy fabric for the body, and some tougher stuff for the limbs.
Next, I started sewing. I’m no expert, but I know the basics. I stitched the fabric pieces together, leaving small openings to stuff them. It was a bit tricky, but I managed to get it done. Once the body parts were sewn, I stuffed them with the fluffy stuff, making sure they were nice and plump.
Then came the fun part – attaching the ear pads! I positioned them on either side of the bear’s head, and carefully sewed them on. They fit perfectly, like they were made to be there. I then sewed on the arms and legs, and added the button eyes and a ribbon around its neck. And that was it! A brand new teddy bear made from old football ear pads.
It wasn’t perfect, kind of rough around the edges, but I was pretty proud of myself. My son thought it was cool too. It’s now sitting on a shelf in my living room, a reminder of my son’s football days and a fun little DIY project. It is not like those fancy teddy bears in stores, but it is unique. I saw some other football-themed teddy bears online, but they were all store-bought. Mine is special because I made it myself, with my son’s old gear.
Honestly, anyone can do this. You don’t need to be a pro at sewing or anything. Just grab some old stuff, use your imagination, and have fun with it. You might surprise yourself with what you can create!
