So, I was playing FFXIV the other day, just minding my own business, when I stumbled upon this dude named Yezahn. He seemed pretty out of it, totally distracted. I went up to him, you know, just to see what’s up, and he started telling me about this whole thing with finding a parent for someone.

Apparently, there’s this person who’s recovering from something, and Yezahn is all worried about where they’ll go after they’re fully healed. He’s taken it upon himself to find a potential parent for them. Sounds like a handful, right?
I got dragged into this whole quest, “What’s in a Parent,” it’s called. I had to go around talking to a bunch of different people. First, there was this Cheery Resident, then an Industrious Resident, and even a Weary Resident. Each one gave me a little piece of the puzzle, some more info about this person who needs a parent.
- Talk to the Cheery Resident
- Check in with the Industrious Resident
- Have a chat with the Weary Resident
It wasn’t just them, though. I also had to meet up with Pasareen, who seemed to know a lot about the situation. All these conversations, running around, it felt like I was doing more social work than adventuring!
Trying to Find a Suitable Parent
The whole point of this quest was to help Yezahn find someone suitable to take care of this person. It’s not like picking a guild or something, this is a way bigger deal! You’re talking about someone’s life here. The game makes you think about it, too. Your character is just a traveling adventurer, no roots, no real home. It really makes you consider what it means to be a parent, what it takes. They say it is not so odd for us adventurers to not have a permanent home or attachments, since we are adults, but for someone who needs a parent, it is another thing.
Anyway, I followed all the steps, talked to everyone, and eventually, we figured things out. I won’t spoil the ending for you, but let’s just say it’s a heartwarming conclusion. It was a nice change of pace from the usual monster-bashing and dungeon-crawling. Plus, it made me think a bit, which is always good, right?

So yeah, that’s my little story about the “What’s in a Parent” quest. It was a bit of a detour, but a worthwhile one. If you’re playing FFXIV, I’d recommend giving it a go. It’s a good reminder that there’s more to these games than just fighting and leveling up.
