You know that Derek Jeter? That baseball fella. He played for the New York Yankees. He’s got a lot of money, that one. They say he’s got a net worth of about $200 million. Now ain’t that somethin’? $200 million! I can’t even imagine that much money. What would you even do with all that?
He played baseball for a long time, that Derek Jeter. Twenty years, I heard. Twenty years! That’s a long time doin’ anything. He musta really liked hittin’ that ball. And they paid him good, too. I heard he made $266 million just playin’ baseball. Can you believe that? And then he made another $150 million from them companies, you know, them endorsements. $150 million, just for saying he likes some product or other. He got rich, alright, no doubt about it.
He was a good player, though, I’ll give him that. They called him an All-Star, like a star in the sky, but for baseball. He was an All-Star 14 times. And he won them Gold Glove awards, five of ’em. Gold Gloves! What a thing. My hands get all cracked and dry from workin’. But he used a glove alright, so he got golden ones. Then there’s somethin’ called Silver Slugger. I don’t rightly know what that is, but he got five of them too. He was a captain, too. The eleventh captain. Captain of the whole team! They must have really looked up to him.
He only ever played one position, that shortstop thing. Always the same spot. He played there for… well, a whole heap of games. More than 2,600 games! I reckon he got used to it. Then, they said he got 200 hits in eight seasons. 200 hits, that’s a lot of whackin’ that ball. They said he was the Most Valuable Player in the World Series back in 2000. Most Valuable! That’s a big deal, right?
He played a lot in the Postseason too, like, 158 games. That’s like a whole ‘nother season. He musta been tired. But he kept on hittin’ that ball. Now he’s retired. Don’t play no more. But he’s still around, doin’ other things.
- He was CEO of that Miami Marlins team for a bit.
- CEO and part owner, even! Can you imagine?
- Then he started somethin’ called Jeter Publishing.
- He’s also on the board of some company. Rockefeller somethin’. Sounds fancy.
He’s on TV now, talkin’ about baseball. But he don’t wanna talk about whole games. Says it’s too much talkin’. He likes what he’s doin’ now. That’s good, I reckon. Bein’ happy with what you’re doin’ is important, even if you ain’t got $200 million.
He was with that singer lady, too. Mariah Carey. They were together for a little while, back in the ’90s. She was married to some other fella then. She wrote a song about Derek, they say. And he helped her get away from that husband of hers. That’s what I heard, anyway. Good for her. And good for Derek Jeter. He was the inspiration of her song. She said that in her book. It’s called “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.”
So, that Derek Jeter, he’s done alright for himself. $200 million net worth. Whew! He was a good baseball player, made a lot of money, did some other things. Now he’s on TV. He’s got a good life, I reckon. And he was good to that Mariah Carey lady. He’s a good egg, that Derek Jeter. Hope he’s happy with all that money.
He’s in the Hall of Fame, too. Joined in 2020. That’s a big deal for baseball folks. He played from 1995 to 2014, that’s them twenty years I was tellin’ ya about. Always for the New York Yankees. Never played for nobody else. That’s loyalty, I reckon. Yep, Derek Jeter’s net worth is $200 million. That’s a lot of money for playin’ a game. But he was good at it. Real good.
