Well, let’s talk about this Bill O’Brien and his money, you know, his salary. Folks are always buzzin’ about how much these fellas make, especially them football coaches. Bill O’Brien salary, that’s what they’re callin’ it on the internet, I hear.
Now, I ain’t no fancy accountant or nothin’, but from what I gather, this fella gets paid a whole heap of money. They say he’s makin’ millions, yeah, millions with an “s”! Can you believe that? More money than most folks see in a lifetime, I reckon. And for what? Tossin’ a ball around and yellin’ at young’uns.
I heard tell he went to some place called Boston College. Yep, Boston College, that’s it. And they paid him a pile, somethin’ like five million dollars, they say. Five million! That’s enough to buy a whole town, ain’t it? But see, that’s just the start of it. They got these things called “incentives.” That’s just a fancy word for more money, far as I can tell. You win a game, you get more money. You get a player to run fast, you get more money. It’s like a never-endin’ money train.
- They say he signed a deal for two years. Two years!
- And each year he gets more and more.
- It ain’t just a regular paycheck, no sir.
Now, before Boston College, I think he was with them Patriots, you know, the football team with the star fella. But he left there and went to coach them college boys. Then, wouldn’t you know it, he up and left Boston College too! Heard he went off to Ohio State, to be their “offensive coordinator” they call him. Sounds fancy, huh? Probably means he gets to draw up plays and tell them boys where to run and whatnot. And you can bet your bottom dollar he’s gettin’ paid handsomely for that too. Ohio State, they got deep pockets, I hear.
This here Bill O’Brien, he seems to move around a lot. One place to another, always chasin’ that bigger paycheck, I guess. Can’t say I blame him, though. If someone offered me millions to holler at some youngsters, I might just take it too. But Lord knows I wouldn’t know the first thing about football!
Some folks, they get all riled up about how much these coaches make. They say it ain’t right, all that money goin’ to one person when there’s folks starvin’ and such. And maybe they got a point. But then again, it’s a free country, ain’t it? If someone’s willin’ to pay that much, and someone else is willin’ to do the job for that much, well, that’s their business, I reckon.
But still, five million dollars… That’s a lot of hay, as they say. I could sure use a little bit of that hay myself. Wouldn’t have to worry about fixin’ the roof or payin’ for them pesky doctor bills no more. But that’s just wishful thinkin’, ain’t it? This old lady ain’t gonna be coachin’ no football team anytime soon.
So, to get back to this salary business, it’s clear this Bill O’Brien fella is doin’ alright for himself. He’s got more money than he knows what to do with, I imagine. And good for him, I guess. He’s workin’ hard, or so they say. Standin’ out there in the sun and the rain, yellin’ and stompin’ his feet. It ain’t exactly easy work, I suppose. But five million dollars? That’s enough to make your head spin.
They talk about a “base salary,” which I reckon is the money he gets no matter what. Then they add on all them “incentives,” which is like extra gravy on your mashed potatoes. The more he wins, the more gravy he gets. It’s all a bit complicated for an old woman like me, but that’s the gist of it, far as I can tell. And it seems like every time he switches jobs, that base salary gets bigger and bigger. It’s a never ending cycle, I tell ya.
Now, I don’t know what the future holds for this Bill O’Brien fella. Maybe he’ll stay at Ohio State for a while, or maybe he’ll move on to some other place with even deeper pockets. But one thing’s for sure, he’ll be makin’ a whole lotta money wherever he goes. That’s just the way it is with these football coaches, I guess. They’re like gold miners, always diggin’ for that next big payday.
And that’s all I got to say about that. All this talk about millions is makin’ my head hurt. Time for a cup of tea and some peace and quiet.
