Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “Coco Gauff, Serena Williams” thing popping up everywhere. I was like, “Alright, let’s see what the hype is about.” I’m no tennis expert, but I do enjoy watching the big games, and the comparisons between these two have been everywhere.

First, I dug into some videos. You know, just went on a YouTube binge. Watched a bunch of highlight reels of both Coco and Serena. Gotta say, the power both of them have is insane! I mean, the way they hit the ball… I could never.
Watching the Pros
- Started with Serena. Wanted to get a good baseline.
- Then moved on to Coco. It was pretty easy to find tons of stuff about her. The Next Big Thing, and all that.
- Found some “comparison” videos. Those were helpful, kind of laid it all out.
After the video deep-dive, I figured I should, you know, actually try to play a little like them. This was… less successful. I have a local court near my place, so I grabbed my old racquet and some balls.
I tried to copy Serena’s stance. Felt really awkward. I looked like a confused flamingo. Trying to do that power serve? Forget about it. My shoulder still hurts a little. Then, I attempted Coco’s, uh, agility? She’s so quick! I almost tripped over my own feet like, five times.
Basically, my attempt to mimic their playing styles was a total disaster. I can barely hit the ball over the net, let alone with the force and precision of a pro athlete.
So, I went back to being a spectator. Figured I’d stick to what I’m (somewhat) good at – watching and appreciating. I realized the whole “Coco Gauff, Serena Williams” comparison is more than just how they play. It’s about legacy, potential, and inspiring the next generation. It’s kind of a cool passing-of-the-torch vibe.

My on the court experience to play like them was terrible.
In the end, my practical experience involved a lot of flailing and a newfound respect for professional tennis players. It’s way harder than it looks.
