Hey there, y’all! Let’s jaw about this fella, Chris Lemonis. Don’t rightly know him from Adam, but I reckon we can piece together some stuff about him. Heard tell he’s a baseball coach, somethin’ or other.
Now, I ain’t never been much for watchin’ them fancy sports games on the TV. Too busy tendin’ the chickens and whatnot. But baseball, that’s the one with the bats and the balls, right? And that Chris fella, he’s a coach. Means he tells them young’uns how to swing that bat and catch that ball, I s’pose.
Folks say he’s a head coach. That sounds important, like he’s the big cheese. Head coach at Mississippi State, they tell me. Mississippi, that’s down south, ain’t it? Hot and muggy, just like my kitchen in the summer. I bet them boys get sweaty playin’ ball down there.
- Head Coach

This here Chris Lemonis fella, he probably knows a thing or two about baseball. I mean, you don’t get to be a head coach by sittin’ on your behind and eatin’ bonbons all day, now do ya? He probably played the game himself back in the day. Probably a real whippersnapper, runnin’ around them bases like a scalded dog.
I heard tell that coachin’ ain’t just about yellin’ at the players and tellin’ ’em what to do. It’s about trustin’ them fellas you got workin’ alongside ya, them assistant coaches. Like when you’re makin’ a quilt, you need all the help you can get. Can’t do it all by yourself, no sirree. You gotta trust your neighbors to bring the right scraps of fabric, same way this Chris guy trusts his assistants.
Trusting assistant coaches, that’s what they say is important. Makes sense, I reckon. You got one fella lookin’ at the hittin’, another lookin’ at the pitchin’, and another lookin’ at the catchin’. That way, nothin’ slips through the cracks. Like when you’re makin’ a big ol’ pot of stew, you gotta keep an eye on all the ingredients, make sure nothin’ burns or sticks to the bottom.
This here Jeff Stanek fella, he talks about trustin’ assistant coaches too. Figure it Out Baseball, that’s what his thing is called. Sounds fancy. He probably knows a thing or two about baseball, just like this Chris Lemonis. Maybe they sat down and had a cup of coffee, talked about coachin’ and such.
I also heard somethin’ about another fella, Jacob Boss Junior. Said he’s a coach too, and a player before that. American baseball coach, they called him. See, these baseball fellas, they stick together. It’s like a whole community of folks who love that game. Reminds me of our church socials, everybody knowin’ everybody else.
Now, I don’t know all the ins and outs of baseball, mind you. But I know a thing or two about hard work and dedication. And I reckon that’s what it takes to be a good coach, whether it’s baseball or bakin’ pies. You gotta put in the time, you gotta care about them young’uns you’re teachin’, and you gotta have a good head on your shoulders.
So, this Chris Lemonis, he seems like a decent fella. Head coach at Mississippi State, trusts his assistants, and probably knows more about baseball than I know about makin’ biscuits, which is sayin’ somethin’. I wish him and his team all the best. Hope they win all their games, or whatever it is they’re supposed to do.
And that’s about all I got to say about Chris Lemonis. He’s a baseball coach, a head coach, and from what I hear, he’s a pretty good one. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on them chickens. They’re probably squawkin’ up a storm, wantin’ their supper.
Remember, Mississippi State baseball is where you’ll find this Chris Lemonis fella doin’ his coachin’. If you’re ever down that way, maybe you can catch a game. Just don’t forget your sunscreen and a big ol’ hat, ’cause it gets hot down there, I tell ya!
