Alright, let’s talk about them boxing coaches, the ones they say are the best ever. You know, the fellas who make them boxers tough as nails. I heard some names, seen some fights on that little box in the corner, so I reckon I can tell ya a thing or two. Don’t expect no fancy words though, I just speak plain.
First off, there’s this Emmanuel Steward fella. Folks say he was somethin’ special. He trained a bunch of good fighters, real champions. I can’t remember all their names, but they were tough, lemme tell ya. This Steward guy, he knew how to make a man fight, that’s for sure. He’d teach ‘em the jab, the hook, all that stuff. And he’d make ‘em mean, you know? Gotta be mean to win in that boxing game.
Then there’s Eddie Futch. Another one they say was top-notch. He trained a whole heap of fighters too. I reckon he was one of them quiet types, the ones who don’t yell and scream but get the job done. He’d watch his fighters real close, see what they were doin’ wrong, and fix it. That’s what a good coach does, see? They don’t just tell ya to punch harder, they show ya how.
- They gotta be patient, like teachin’ a mule to plow.
- They gotta be tough, like a ol’ boot.
- And they gotta know boxing, inside and out.
Now, this Nacho Berestein, I heard he was good too. Trained some Mexican fellas, real tough hombres. You know them Mexican fighters, they don’t back down from nobody. This Nacho, he’d get ‘em ready, make sure they were in tip-top shape. Boxing ain’t just about punchin’, ya know. It’s about bein’ strong, bein’ fast, and havin’ the guts to keep goin’ when you’re tired.
And don’t forget Freddy Roach. This fella, he’s still around, I think. He trains that Pacquiao fella, the one who punches like a mule kickin’. Freddy, he’s got that eye, ya know? He can see what a fighter needs to work on, even if the fighter don’t see it himself. He’s got a whole gym full of fighters, all tryin’ to be the best. It takes a special kind of man to handle all that.
Roger Mayweather, now there was a character. He’d tell it like it is, no sugar-coating. “You don’t know nothin’ about boxing!” he’d say. He was Floyd Mayweather’s uncle, the one who’s always flashin’ his money around. Roger, he knew his stuff. He taught Floyd how to box, how to defend himself, how to win. He was a fighter himself, so he knew what it took.
And then there’s Cus D’Amato. He’s one of them old-timers, been around a long time ago. He trained some fellas who became champions, real legends. This Cus, he was more than just a coach, ya know? He was like a father figure to his fighters. He’d teach ‘em about life, not just about boxing. He’d tell ‘em to be disciplined, to be respectful, to be good people. He trained Mike Tyson, that fella who was so strong, so scary. But Cus, he saw something good in him, even when nobody else did.
There are probably other good coaches out there, lots of ‘em. But these are the names I hear the most. They’re the ones who made a difference, the ones who helped their fighters become the best. It ain’t easy, bein’ a boxing coach. You gotta be tough, you gotta be smart, and you gotta care about your fighters. It’s like raisin’ kids, I reckon. You gotta guide ‘em, teach ‘em, and help ‘em become the best they can be.
So, that’s my two cents on them boxing coaches. They’re a special breed, that’s for sure. They work hard, they push their fighters, and they make champions. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, I reckon.
Boxing is more than just punching, it is about heart, grit, and having someone in your corner who believes in you. That’s what these coaches did, they believed in their fighters, sometimes more than the fighters believed in themselves. It is tough work, but when you see your fighter win, all that hard work seems worthwhile, just like plowing a field and seeing the crops grow tall and strong.
These fellas made boxing history and for that they should be remembered. They shaped the sport and I for one, I like a good fight. So, hats off to them, the best boxing coaches, for the blood, sweat, and tears, for the champions made, and the ones who gave it their all.
