Okay, so I was looking into this quarterback, Jared Goff, and wanted to see how he did back in college. I remember he played for the Cal Golden Bears, but I couldn’t recall the specifics of his time there.
First, I started by pulling up his college stats. There’s this website I use, Sports-Reference, it’s pretty good for this kind of stuff. I found his page and it was cool to see all his numbers laid out from his freshman year in 2013 all the way through his junior year in 2015. His numbers got way better each year. It was clear he was learning and improving a ton.
- In 2013, as a freshman, he threw for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Not too bad for a rookie, right?
- By 2014, he bumped those numbers up to 3,973 yards, 35 touchdowns, and only 7 interceptions. You could see he was getting way more comfortable out there.
- Then in 2015, his final year, he just exploded with 4,719 yards, 43 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. This guy was on fire! I could see why the Rams drafted him first overall in 2016.
After looking at his stats, I watched some of his college highlights on YouTube. It’s one thing to see the numbers, but another to watch him actually play. I found a bunch of clips of him making some really impressive throws. He had a strong arm and could make those tight-window passes that are super important in the NFL. There was this one play where he scrambled out of the pocket and launched a deep ball right on the money – it was awesome! He has such a strong skill.
I also read some old articles about him from his college days. One from ESPN talked about how he was breaking all these Cal records. Another one from a local newspaper described how he was leading the team to their first winning season in years. It sounds like he was a big deal on campus.
So, after digging into Jared Goff’s college career, I came away pretty impressed. He clearly developed a lot during his time at Cal and put up some monster numbers. Plus, he looked really good on film and seemed like a natural leader. No wonder he went first overall in the draft. It made me appreciate his NFL career even more, knowing where he came from.
