Alright, let’s talk about this tennis thing, the… uh… “Azarenka US Open 2023,” yeah, that’s it. I saw some matches on the TV, you know, the one in the corner of the living room? My grandson, he’s always fiddling with it. Anyways, this Azarenka girl, she’s been around, ain’t she? They say she used to be the tippy-top player, number one and all that. Heard she won a bunch of big tournaments, like, two of them in Australia, back-to-back. That’s what they said on the TV, so it must be true, I guess.
This year, 2023, seems like it was a bit of a mixed bag for her, like my garden sometimes. Some good tomatoes, some not so good. She won some matches, lost some others. This US Open thing, though… well, she played, that’s for sure. I saw a bit of her match. She won one, then lost to some girl named Zhu Lin. Zhu Lin, imagine that! Never heard of her before. My grandson said it was the second round. Second round, huh? Guess Azarenka ain’t what she used to be, maybe getting a little old, like me.
- They said she won some money, too. A lot of money. Thirty-seven million dollars, or something like that. Can you believe it? That’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life, probably more money than the whole village has seen!
- And she gets money from other places too, not just from playing tennis. Something about “partnerships” with shoe companies and drinks. Nike, Wilson, Red Bull… sounds fancy. My shoes are from the market, and my drink is water from the well. Good enough for me.
This year, 2024, she’s still playing, I think. They said she won a match in the US Open again, moved to the third round. Against some French girl this time. Don’t remember her name. Too many names to keep track of, all these tennis players. They come and go like the seasons.
I heard she had to quit a tournament in Cincinnati, though. Something about an injury. Said she hurt herself in Toronto. Well, that happens when you get older, I tell ya. My knees ain’t what they used to be neither. She said she was “extremely disappointed,” but sometimes you just gotta rest. Gotta listen to your body, that’s what I always say. Even if you’re a big-shot tennis player with millions of dollars.
She won some tournament in the desert, too, a couple of times. Indian Wells, they called it. Hot place, I bet. Hotter than my kitchen in the summer, that’s for sure. Seems like she’s been everywhere, this Azarenka girl. Playing tennis all over the world.
So, that’s about all I know about this “Azarenka US Open 2023” thing. She played, she won some, she lost some. She’s got a lot of money, and she gets hurt sometimes, just like the rest of us. Just a person, I guess, even if she’s on TV. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens. They’re more interesting than this tennis stuff, most days.
Anyway, that’s what I saw and heard. Don’t know if it’s all right, but it’s the truth as I know it. This tennis world, it’s a whole different world from mine, that’s for sure.
