Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of talk about Alex Pereira’s weight, especially his walking weight, and I got curious. This dude is a beast, going from middleweight to light heavyweight, and people are saying he walks around way heavier than he fights at. So, I decided to do a little experiment of my own, not to his extremes, of course, but just to see what the whole weight fluctuation thing is all about.
Getting Started
First off, I’m no professional fighter, just a regular guy who likes to stay in shape. I usually hover around 185 pounds, give or take. My goal wasn’t to cut weight like Pereira, but to understand how much my weight could change in a short time just by tweaking a few things.
The Experiment
I started by tracking my normal weight for a week. Just regular eating, regular workouts, nothing fancy. Then, I decided to see what would happen if I cut out carbs and salt for a few days, just like I read these fighters do. I also drank a ton of water at the start and then gradually reduced it. You know, kind of simulating what I think they go through.
The Results
- Week 1 (Normal): My weight was pretty stable, between 184 and 186 pounds. Felt good, energy levels were normal.
- Week 2 (Experiment):
- Day 1-3: Cut out carbs and salt. Man, that was tough! I was craving bread like crazy. Also, I was drinking so much water, I felt like a human water balloon. I got up to about 190 by the end of day 2.
- Day 4-6: Started cutting down on water. This was the weirdest part. I actually started to feel lighter, even though I wasn’t peeing as much. I could see my abs a bit more, which was cool, I guess.
- Day 7: Weighed in at 178 pounds. It’s not much, I know, but it’s pretty wild that I lost 8 pounds in just a few days without really doing much other than messing with my water and carb intake. I was also tired all of the time, and couldn’t lift as heavy in the gym.
What I Learned
I gotta say, I have a newfound respect for these fighters. Cutting weight like they do is no joke. It’s not just about being disciplined; it’s a whole science and a really tiring one at that. I felt weak and grumpy by the end of the week, and I wasn’t even close to cutting as much as Pereira does. It’s crazy to think he can drop from over 230 pounds to 205, or back when he was fighting at middleweight, 185. That’s a massive difference!
I mean, I get it now. It’s not just about being heavy on fight night. It’s a strategic move to be as strong as possible in your weight class. Still, it seems pretty brutal.
Anyway, that was my little adventure into the world of weight fluctuations. I’m definitely sticking to my regular routine from now on. I like my bread too much, and I like feeling full of energy. But, it was an interesting experiment, and now I feel like I have a better appreciation for what these fighters go through before they step into the octagon. It made me feel pretty tired and hungry, I wouldn’t recommend it!
So that’s my story. Not as extreme as Alex Pereira’s, but it gave me a small taste of what he and other fighters experience. It’s a tough life, man, and my hat’s off to them.
